August Trestleboard
AUGUST 2001
FROM THE EAST

Welcome, Brothers, to
our summer months of warm weather and a lot more chores to
accomplish in the yard and around the house. Our summer months
at St. John's Lodge are very busy also. Three years ago we
elected to return to a full-time schedule and NOT to go dark
during the summer, as we have an extreme amount of business to
conduct. We are one of the most active lodges in Washington.
I am proud of the
amount of work and charities that we have been participating in
and the new faces that are volunteering to take part in
committees and activities without having to use the "gentle pull
of the cable tow".
Please take time to
pull out your calendar and schedule time to attend the upcoming
functions that we have listed in this Trestleboard, as our
summer months seem to fill up fast.
We have a new Grand
Master, MWB Robert L. VanZee, who will be carrying the torch
from our own MWB Richard Mecartea and leading us into this next
year with visions of growth for our great fraternity. It was a
pleasure to see MWB Mecartea back on the sidelines at our
"Herb's Night" after having an extremely busy and productive
year as our Grand Master.
Remember to look into
your community to see if there is any brother whomay need our
assistance, and let our Trustees or myself know if there is some
way St. John's Lodge can make a difference in someone's life.
I hope that all of our
brothers and families have a fantastic summer and I look forward
to seeing as many brothers as possible at our next Stated
Communication on August 1st.

GOLF TOURNAMENT ENJOYED BY ALL
The King Solomon Golf Tournament was a great success
again this year, as we had beautiful weather and fourteen members and
guests representing St. John's Lodge No. 9.
There were four awards given to our members and
guests for 1) best score ( net 66 ), Jeff Lane and guest Russ Sommers,
2) longest drive, guest Sommers and 3) longest putt, guest Carl Aye.
I want to add to the awards presentation by according
our brothers, Chuck Brockway and Skip Albertson, with an honorable
mention for "the most buildings hit" and Brother John DuWors for the
"shortest drive."
I would also like to thank Brother Terry Grove for
his involvement in "rounding up and coordinating" our participants.
Brother Grove was instrumental in helping me with my game. After
watching me for just a short while, Brother Grove informed me that I was
standing "too close to the ball.......after I hit it."
Thanks again to all of our brothers for their
involvement. All the money donated by our lodge and others in the
tournament goes to youth scholarships.
Fraternally, Jeff Lane |

LODGE TO ACT ON RESOLUTION TO
ASSIST LANGLEY LODGE IN BUILDING REPAIRS
The following resolution will
be acted upon at our August 1 meeting:
Purpose of Resolution: To
assist Langley Lodge No. 218 in the repair and restoration of its
Masonic Lodge building.
Whereas the Langley Masonic
Temple has experienced major water intrusion that has resulted in the
need to make repairs as soon as possible to prevent further damage, and
Whereas, a contracted price has
been received for the repair and restoration of the Langley Masonic
Temple, in an amount not to exceed $31,000 and,
Whereas the Langley Lodge and
Langley Temple Association have insufficient resources to undertake such
an obligation to save their building, and
Whereas we have been taught
that, should we ever meet a friend, more rother Mason, rother Mason, in
a poor and penniless condition, we should contribute as liberally to his
relief as his necessities require and our ability permits, and
Whereas the growth of our
financial portfolio enables us to assist Langley Lodge in this effort
and it is unanimously recommended by the Trustees of St. John's Lodge
No. 9 that this contribution be an addition to the current budget
charity line item,
Therefore be it Resolved:
that St. John's Lodge No. 9 make a charitable donation to Langley Temple
Association of $31,000 and
Be it Further Resolved:
that agreement will be entered into between Langley Temple Association
and St. John's Lodge No. 9 that should the final cost of the repair be
less than the $31,000, said difference will be returned to St. John's
Lodge No. 9; and if Langley Temple or property be sold prior to December
31, 2011, this contribution will be repaid in full to St. John's Lodge
No. 9. |
