Table Lodge

Royal Court of King Solomon to Convene at St. John's April Stated
Dinner to be served at 6pm; stated meeting to open at 7:30

Let your imagination take you back 3,000 years! You are among friends and fellow Temple workers, gathered around a festive table in King Solomon's Temple. It is a time to feast; it is a time to toast; it is a time of delight and merriment. You are engaged in the drama designed to share in Good Fellowship, to extend and receive Brotherly Love, to offer Relief, and uphold honor and Truth.

Let us eat, drink, and be merry. And in so doing, we shall become even better friends, made stronger with that "mystic tie."

There shall be no strangers among us, no emptiness or gloom, no tired and listless faces when craftsmen from the quarries assemble within the Royal Court of King Solomon. Food, laughter, and an abundance of toasts will be the order of the day preceding our April 3 stated meeting.

"Right hand to arms! Ready! Aim! Fire! Good fire! Fire all! Present ARMS!

To those who have had the stimulating experience of participation in a table lodge, those words bring memories of good fellowship and brotherhood, memories filled with love of the Craft, of one's country, and "to all Freemason's wheresoever dispersed."

This is a tiled ceremony in conjunction with our dinner, which will be served at 6 p.m. Only Masons, Entered Apprentice or above, will be allowed to share our festive board. No ladies or non-Masonic guests this month, please.

The table lodge is no mere banquet with entertainment; it is a special lodge ceremony in itself, with a ritual, formalities and a special terminology which is of some interest. It should be observed in the proper spirit of the occasion, with the utmost dignity and decorum. Those who have them are encouraged to bring their special cannons for the evening.

Following closure of the table festivities, our regular Communication will be opened at approximately 7:30 p.m. to conduct that business necessary to every Lodge.

From the East

Well, it has been a long time in arriving this year, but can we finally call it Spring? With that thought, it will not be long now before we have our FABulous Family Brunch. We have this brunch every year as a small token of our appreciation to our wives and families for letting us attend to our Masonic duties throughout the year. This year we are having the brunch at a special Seattle landmark, Ivar's Salmon House. This is one of the best brunches in town, and we have the restaurant to ourselves from 8:30 to 10:30 AM on Sunday, May 5th. After 10:30 AM, feel free to stay as long as you want to enjoy the "all you can eat" buffet. There is plenty of parking at Ivar's on the opposite side of the street. Let us try to leave those spots truly close to the front entrance for our less mobile members. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Please return the RSVP card which you will find in your US mail copy of this trestleboard to me by the April 25th cut-off date to inform Ivar's of the turnout.

I had a thought at last month's Stated meeting inspired by architect Dr. Alex Anderson's effort to trace the origin of a column from an upright perpendicular. From the humble beginnings of an upturned log, to an obelisk, to the classic Greek and Roman columns, and finally to the modern skyscraper, all have in common trying to elevate our minds from the terrestrial to the celestial. My thought was that in speculative Masonry, it is this same essence that we revere. Perhaps this is especially relevant to us in the Pacific Northwest where we can look to "our mountain" in much the same way. It is not hard to find your spirits elevated on a clear day when you can see Mt. Rainier.

Please join us at the April Stated meeting for our annual tradition of Table Lodge. This meeting always has a high turnout and for good reason. This year we have decided to cast a "nautical" flavor to the Table Lodge, as if we were on a ship of yore. Actually, this has less to do with my being an oceanographer and more to do with Bobbie the waitress being able to wear her parrot on her shoulder as she serves us "meates and fichesses". ArrrrrrrrrrrrG! (And yes they had BBQ and teriyaki ribs on these olde ships. Dress-casual attire would be well advised. No blue-jeans, please.)

In keeping with Grand Lodge's latest edict, we will have a short separate business meeting in the Quick Room at the conclusion of dinner. Anything requiring a vote will have to occur at that time.

In May we look forward to a presentation by Maury Clark our fiscal guru, although the subject will be even more interesting than a financial report, if you can believe that. In June we have our resident Egyptologist Joseph Du Wors to speak about his recent research trip. Do not forget to read your Trestleboard next month for the exciting details.

Skip Albertson, Master

Two Passed to Fellowcraft

We were pleased to pass two Entered Apprentices to the degree of Fellowcraft on Wednesday, February 20. They are Brothers Frank Anthony, Jr. and Ken Wehl. Both look forward to becoming Master Masons and are working diligently in establishing their proficiency as Fellowcrafts.

Annual Family Brunch Visits Ivar's Salmon House

Plans are underway for our annual FABulous Family Brunch, targeted for 8:30 Sunday morning, May 5. This year we have an exclusive engagement at Ivar's Salmon House at the north end of Lake Union. Ivar's Salmon House is well known for its fine fish, corn bread and native American cuisine. You'll want to make your reservations early for this one! Invitations and reservation cards for our members and widows are included in the April Lodge Trestleboard. The whole family should have a good time again this year!

Our Thanks

We express our appreciation to VWBro. Charles Brockway who presented the Lodge with a fine crafted hour glass purchased in Toledo, Spain, on his recent trip to Europe.

Golf Tournament Deadline

Members of the Lodge who are planning to participate in the annual King Solomon's golf tourney (May 18) need to make reservations through Bro. Terry Grove. The tournament, designed by King Solomon's Lodge No. 60 to raise money for student scholarships, is a fun way to get acquainted with other members of the fraternity, have a good time, and contribute to a worthy cause for young students. The tournament will be held at the Lake Wilderness Golf Course.

Deadline for this registration will be in early May, so call Terry at (206) 358-8447 (work) or (425) 337-7134 (home).

Milestones

Since the first of the year, three of our brothers have joined those who have been called by the Supreme Architect of the Universe. We shall miss Brothers Robert McWatty (Elliott Bay), Ivan Binder (Theodore Roosevelt), and Karold "Rommie" Romberger. These three served our Lodges with dignity and honor for a total of 146 years!

MWBro. George Jurgich passed away March 13, 2002, following a short illness. He served the Grand Lodge as Grand Master 1996-1997
