Following the meal the master called for the monthly joke session. Some very funny golf jokes were tendered for the members enjoyment and at the conclusion of this all retired to the Lodge room for a report on the Lost Boys of Sudan which was given by Maury Clark, St. John's Lodge's financial guru. |
He brought with him a fifteen year old young man who stood six feet six and is still growing. This young man survived the orphan's march from the Sudan to Ethiopia where it was turned back and then to Kenya where the United Nations had set up a camp for these people. | | Photograph by Darrel Womack |
|
Out of fifteen thousand children who began the journey only five thousand survived to the end. A quite amazing trip and we are pleased that St. John's Lodge, in conjunction with the Clark Fund, has become involved in the lives of some of these young people. |
The Secretary of the Blue Nile Children's Orphanage project was also present at the presentation and told the Lodge that the construction is going nicely and everything is on schedule. There will be updates on this regularly |
There was then a short recess and then Lodge was opened on the first degree for business. At this stated the Lodge elected to support the Job's Daughter Grand Bethel by purchasing ads in both the Grand Bethel program and the Miss Washington Job's Daughter program.
The Lodge decided to put four foursomes in the King Solomon Lodge Scholorship Golf Tournament and thus continue the support of this worthy endeavor as St. John's Lodge has done since King Solomon Lodge challenged St. John's Lodge the first time.
St. John's Lodge will work with Daylight Lodge to put together the booth at the Fremont Fair and this, it is hoped, will help the visibility of the Fraternity in the community.
The Lodge also elected to have, with the approval of the Grand Master, the Lodge advertised on WB Jeff Lane's 2002 Pontiac Grand AM race car. This, if approved, will give the Lodge a great deal of visibility in the State and all over the country. |
A petition for affiliation was balloted and approved and the Lodge will confer two third degrees on Saturday, May 11, at 8:30 AM. An increase in membership over attrition may be achieved this year and the trend toward building the Lodge membership should increase over time. |
Photograph by Darrel Womack | | The Worshipful Master was presented with a small (sic) gavel by the W Bro. Ken Lane Jr. on behalf of all of the WBrothers Lane to be used as a vistiation trophy. Any visiting Lodge can claim it with five members attending a St. John's Lodge stated communication. |
|
St. John's Lodge would then have to have five members visit the Lodge which holds the gavel to reclaim it. St. John's Lodge won't even insist on being fed an excellent supper as St. John's will do for any visiting members from other Lodges. It is hoped that this will foster a lot of visitation between the Lodges. |
| The bad tie competition was held and Bruno Zittlau was the winner. It is suspected that the number of the votes given to WBro. Bruno was more of a lifetime achievement award for his continuing efforts in this regard than an award for a single instance of a bad tie. | | Photograph by Darrel Womack |

Although this meeting lasted longer than most everyone hated to have the evening end. Lodge was closed at ten PM, peace and harmony prevailing. Happy to meet, sorry to part, and happy to meet again. Until next month - |
