June's Meeting Night
Photographs by W Bro. Charles Tupper, Bro. Darrel Womack, and Bro. Joe DuWors

At about five-thirty the Brothers of St. John's Lodge No. 9 began to congregate for the social hour preceding our monthly dinner, presentation, and stated communication at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. VW Bro. Chuck Brockway served light refreshment to the brethren as all caught up on the past month with their friends and Brothers.

At six o'clock Steve (Steve's Cafe Expresso) and his capable help fed St. John's guests and membership tossed green salad, barbequed beef ribs and barbequed chicken, fresh corn on the cob, and baked potato with sour cream and butter along with excellent cornbread muffins. For dessert we were served berry cobbler with ice cream. An excellent repast!

If you are in the Bothell area during the breakfast or lunch hours you cannot do better than to eat at Steve's Cafe Expresso located at 10116 Main Street in Bothell.

Following the meal the master called for the monthly joke session. Bro. Ken Wehl won a St. John's Lodge tee shirt for his magic tricks. Bro. Ken has quickly become the Lodge Magician and is always ready with something special for the membership to see.

At the conclusion of this entertainment all retired to the Lodge room for Bro. Joe DuWors' presentation on Egypt.

The presentation lasted for forty minutes and covered some of the history of the Pharoahs who were involved in the history of Israel as well as a look at the land and artifacts of Egypt. The pictures were magnificent and the talk was extremely informative. Bro. DuWors outdid himself on this one!

Lodge was then opened and a new Master Mason proved up. The Secretary read two petitions for the degrees and three memorials for departed Brethren. The usual business of the Lodge was quickly dispensed with.

W. Bro. Ken Lane Sr., on behalf of the three W Bros. Lane, presented the Lodge with its loose minutes from years past beautifully bound for posterity. A wonderful gesture by these dedicated Past Masters. The Lodge thanked them heartily.

St. John's Lodge will visit Arcana Lodge No. 87 on the 17th and will deliver the St. John's Lodge gavel at that time. There will be at least ten members of St. John's Lodge attending and more would be fun. All members are invited to take part in this visitation.

The second volume of St. John's Lodge No. 9's history is expected to be published in time for the Annual Dinner. This volume will be about two hundred thirty pages and will be a "must read" for every member. Look for it soon!

Although the results of the King Solomon Lodge golf tournament have not been officially announced it appears that one of St. John's Lodge No. 9's foursomes won the event. Seventeen Brothers of St. John's Lodge attended the tournament and over sixty people competed.

VW Bro. David Campbell
VW Bro. Dave Campbell spoke about his two years as Deputy of the Grand Master in District No. 5 and the Lodge thanked him for his dedicated service. His term will end at Grand Lodge next week. Thank you VW Bro. Dave. You have been an inspiration and have done the job beyond the call!

WB Jerry Whitney (Layfayette Lodge) presented the Lodge with a plaque strip for the Lodge's contribution to the Royal Arch charity fund for the past year.

This meeting saw out of state visitors from New York and Arizona.

The Fremont Fair booth was discussed and the Lodge needs volunteer members to spend about two hours during the days of the fair to man the booth. The work is fun and rewarding so if you have the time please let the WM know that you are available.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 with peace and harmony prevailing and, as usual, everyone hated to have the evening end. Happy to meet, sorry to part, and happy to meet again. Until next month -
