August's Meeting Night

At about 5:30 PM on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon the membership and scholarship guests began arriving at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. Friendships were renewed and new faces were welcomed by all.

At 6:00 everyone entered the dining room for an excellent supper. Steve and his staff served tossed green salad, meatloaf, mashed potatos and gravy, and mixed vegetables. For dessert he served strawberry-rhubarb or lemon merangue pie.

After supper WM Skip Albertson said a few words about the pride that St. John's Lodge No. 9 has in its scholarship program and what a wonderful job the scholarship committee does in its search for candidates.

"

He then turned the proceedings over to W Bro Ken Lane Jr., chairman of this year's scholarship committee, to introduce the recipients and their families and friends. He asked each to stand and introduce themselves and their guests.

Each recipient introduced all that had accompanied them and told the membership a little about themsleves and where they were going to attend college or university. We are sure that each of them will do well in their future studies.

St. John's Lodge tries to find students who need a little extra to help them to meet the financial obligations of earning a higher education. This entails a lot of work on the part of the scholarship committee. Contacting schools and talking

to counsellors to find those students and then the interview process takes a lot of time. The committee members find this work very rewarding and there are always members who wish to serve on this committee.

St. John's Lodge is very pleased that these scholarship recipients are proud of their accomplishment and show it by inviting family and friends to the annual scholarship dinner. It makes the lodge membership proud to be able to help.

The guests then went on their separate ways and the membership retired to the Lodgeroom for the monthly stated communication. Every so often it is necessary to have a strictly business meeting. Planning must be done for the future events of the Lodge.

The usual business of the lodge was conducted and the picnic final arrangements were taken care of. This will be a very major event and with all that is planned it will be a full day for everyone who attends. The WM has finally contracted for a professional band to play for the picnic and all the other

entertainments that were listed in the August Trestleboard will be in place. The Lodge is looking forward to the best picnic it has put on in many, many years.

W Bro Ken Lane Jr. presented the WM with three team plaques from the St. John's sponsored Little League teams with the team pictures on them. This was Little League's way of saying thanks to the Lodge from all the players and coaches for the sponsorship of this years teams.

St. John's Lodge will be doing degree work on all three degrees before the next Stated Communication and a petition which was read at this meeting will be investigated for ballot next month. The renewal of St. John's Lodge No. 9 seems to be on a steady track for the future.

Lodge was closed at about 10 PM and our tyler, WB Paul Wickward, put the furnishings of the Lodge away until the next meeting.

The brothers of St. John's Lodge No. 9 then went their separate ways. Peace and Harmony prevailed this month, as it always does at St. John's Lodge No. 9.

Until next month -
