September's Meeting Night

Once again, at 5:30 PM the membership and guests for this month's Stated Communication began arriving at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. Among these were Masons from Boston and New York as well as a man who comes originally from India, is

a systems analyst for the Boeing Company, and who is interested in joining our Lodge.

At 6:00 everyone entered the dining room for another of Steve's excellent meals. He and his staff served tossed green salad, stuffed pork chop or halibut, baked potato with butter and sour cream, and mixed vegetables with peppers. For dessert he served boysenberry pie ala
mode. The membership was so full that they could hardly move after eating this repast.

Immediately following supper WM Skip Albertson introduced Liz Rossman from the North Shore School District. She talked about her work with handicapped children and how swimming pool therapy helps them. Ms. Rossman became aware of St. John's Lodge No. 9 through

her acquaintance with Brother Steven Specht. They share an interest in working with handicapped children and will probably ask the Lodge to consider their charity for next year's budget.

Immediately following this presentation the Lodge moved to the Quick Room for a presentation on the City of Hope charity. This presentation began with a film chronicalling the cancer and recovery of one of their patients. This individual, a little girl bone marrow cancer patient, lost a leg in order to save her life. This was due to the lack
of knowledge on treating bone cancers available at that time. This happened twenty years ago and this little girl, now grown with a little girl of her own, was in our Lodgeroom at this presentation to tell us how the City of Hope saved her life as well as giving her dignity and hope for the future.

Following this presentation, PGM and Dr. Sid Kase told the Lodge that he had spent the last two years of his surgery residency at the City of Hope many years ago and was chief resident the second year. He applauded the work of this fine institution and talked of the strides in treating cancers made by this charity.

After this presentation the non Mason guests left and the September Stated meeting began. WM Skip Albertson opened Lodge on the third degree as it would be his last opportunity to close the Lodge during his term as Master of St. John's Lodge No. 9.

Present at this meeting was VW Bro. Gale Kenney, Deputy of the Grand Master in District No. 5. This was his first visit as DD to St. John's Lodge. Also present were several members of the Grand Lodge team.

The usual business of the Lodge was quickly handled and committee reports were given.

We were then told by W Bro. Ken Lane Jr. that the long awaited volume 2 of the History of St. John's Lodge will definitely be distributed at the Anniversary Dinner on September 14th.

Also discussed was the "Magical Mystery History" tour on October 2nd prior to the visit of the Grand Master at our October Stated. Sign up sheets were passed around for this tour as there are only 51 seats on the bus. It is not handicap accessible and the Worshipful Master said that if there is enough demand that it is possible that a second tour may be made with a handicap accessible bus.

Lodge was closed at about 9:40 PM by WM Skip Albertson. As this was his last opportunity to give the Master's admonishment on behaviour outside of Lodge to the membership he got a bit choked up. We were all very touched by his
delivery of the ritual talk and by his walking the square shaking each individual Brother's hand while doing so. It is good for the Brethren to have a Master so dedicated to the Lodge that this can occur.

The Brethren of St. John's Lodge then went their separate ways until the Anniversary Dinner on October 14th. Peace and Harmony prevailed.
