| | This month's meeting night was one of the most eventful of this year. St. John's Lodge enjoyed the company of two distinguished guests: James N. Reid, Grandmaster of Masons in Washington and Seattle's most prolific author of local and state history and noted historian, James R. Warren. | |
| | At 5:45 the Magical Mystery History Tour bus arrived from the tour at the SRMC. At 6:00 the membership, their wives and guests entered the dining room for a chicken or roast beef dinner served with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, green salad, crackers with liverwurst, and rolls with butter. |
In keeping with the "Oktoberfest" theme for the evening Steve served apple strudel for dessert and the Lodge supplied a glass of beer to each person who wished to partake. A very enjoyable and filling meal for all

| | Following supper everyone retired to the Lodge room where Dr. James R. Warren was introduced and gave a talk on Seattle history and his findings that St. John's Lodge No. 9 is a historical society which has helped, and been involved | |
in the affairs, public enterprises, and charities of Seattle for over one hundred forty years of its history.
He spoke of the early days of the city, its building years, and the city today.
| | He said that after researching St. John's Lodge for his talk that he had come to the realization that the Lodge had a great deal to do with the formation and growth of the city. His talk was very well received by all present and all the books he brought with him were purchased by the membership. |
Following Dr. Warren's talk introductions were made. Among these was the Jr. Warden of Steilacoom Lodge No. 2,St. John's Lodge No. 9's mother Lodge who happened to be the bus driver for the history tour. A very strange but welcome coincidence. The Lodge also welcomed Senior Wardens from West Seattle. Then two Worshipful Master's, a bevy of Grand Lodge committeemen, two District Deputies, a Past Grand Master (our own MWB Richard McCarty, and Grand Lodge officers including RW Bro. John McNab, Deputy Grand Master and RW Bro. Sat Tashiro, Senior Grand Warden who were all conducted to the East and accorded public grand honors. |
Then the Grand Master was escorted to the Altar and then to the east where he was accorded grand honors.
Next, Alexandra Rush gave the membership a quiz on St. John's History. It was fun to take and everyone enjoyed it.
Then she announced that Bro. Steven Specht had turned in the first accurate completed crossword puzzle which was handed out during the afternoon tour and he won a pound of coffee.
Following Alex's quiz a Lodge memorial was done for Judge and Bro. Eugene A. Wright.
Non-members were then asked to leave the Lodgeroom so that the monthly stated communication could commence.
The bills were paid and two petitions were read and another was favorably balloted. |
There will be two Fellowcraft degrees on the 16th of this month and an Entered Apprentice degree on the 24th.
The Annual Oyster feed for the Masonic Retirement Center will be held on October 9th and the Lodge will be serving the meal in the main dining room at the MRC at 5:30. There are enough volunteers for this event but more would be welcome. If you would like to help on this contact Michael Rust, our Junior Warden.
St. John's Lodge will be doing the Teen Feed in the University District on Sunday, October 20th. The Lodge will furnish all the food, prepare it, and then serve it to about fifty homeless children. Volunteers are needed for this event and those who are willing to help should contact the Worshipful Master.
VW Bro. Campbell reported that there will be a Youth Night on the 26th and help is needed from the membership to chaperone and generally help to make the evening a success. Volunteers should call 425-743-2450 and should be available at the SRMC at 6 PM on the 26th.
The Worshipful Master announced that our Senior Deacon, Bro. Joseph Lund will be in charge of this year's Thanksgiving and Christmas charity giving. If you know of a needy family, please let him know as soon as possible. |
| | After the business was concluded the Worshipful Master turned the meeting over to MW Bro. James Reid, Grandmaster for his remarks and to close the Lodge. MW Bro. Reid talked about the growth of Freemasonry and that the membership is the best advertising tool that we have available. He said that he isn't in favor of big publicity campaigns and he believes that the fraternity will grow best by example. |
Following his remarks the Grand Master closed St. John's Lodge No. 9 in ample form at about ten o'clock. Peace and harmony prevailed as it always does at St. John's Lodge. We hope to see all of you at our next stated communication on November 6th.
