On the evening of September 14th, St. John's Lodge No. 9's one hundred forty-second anniversary was celebrated. At 6:00 PM 153 members, their families, and the Lodge's guests began to arrive at the Seattle Design Center for the social hour preceding the dinner and entertainment. The room filled quickly.

| | W Bro. David Moffat and VW Bro. Jim Russell met everyone as they entered with boxes of Volume II of the History of St. John's Lodge No. 9. Along with the books was one for Alexandra Rush, the author, for everyone to sign as a remembrance to her from the Lodge. |

After checking in and getting their meal tickets everyone settled in for an enjoyable evening among Brothers and friends. At 7 PM WM Skip Albertson welcomed everyone and, after the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, John DuWors said a prayer and then the meals were served.

Following the excellent meal of either prime rib or salmon the Worshipful Master called Alexandra Rush to the stage and presented her with the copy of the history which had been signed. He also presented her with a large bouquet of flowers and the Lodge's thanks for her years of work on the book.

| | It was then time for the evenings entertainment and Skip Albertson introduced "The Laff Master," Mario Lorenz, who immediately began his song and dance routine. Before long he involved the audience in his vaudevillian antics. He wandered through the audience asking questions of those present and had fun with the answers given. |
The mild embarassment caused by kidding those with whom he conversed was fun for all and nobody had any complaints. All was in good humor and clean fun. After a time he returned to the stage and announced that the audience was in for a treat. |
He introduced Karen Shivers, a well known northwest jazz singer, who began her opening number from behind the audience and strolled around the room while singing. She sang beautifully with the accompanying piano music of Terry O'Hara. Terry also played magnificently for the entire show.
| | At the conclusion of Ms. Shivers beginning performance Mario did some more vaudeville "magic" acts and then began to bring members of the audience on stage to "help" him in his act. The result was humorous and very entertaining. Those called to "help" had a lot of fun doing so. |
After Ms. Shivers sang another number it was time for the grand finale act. Mario brought a member of the audience to the stage to play "kung Fu boxes." This was accomplished by having the audience member do exactly as Mario did with three boxes. Mario is an expert at box juggling and the outcome of this was predictable and extremely funny.

Too soon the show was over and so was the 142nd St. John's Lodge No. 9 anniversary celebration. An absolutely wonderful evening was enjoyed by all attending. |
