Christmas Gifts Well Received
By WB David Carlson

As Christmas was fast approaching, WB Carlsen and his wife Helena had fun shopping for two needy families. Once the perfect gifts were chosen they were wrapped with care and then loaded in the sleigh in preparation for the big event.

As this brother already had the perfect Santa personality, shape and natural white beard, he happily dressed up in his red suit on Xmas Eve to start his work. With his sleigh loaded up with gifts for joy he set out on his mission to deliver the Christmas spirit with gifts to two needy families.

The first stop was at the home of a single mother of four with children ranging in age from 3 to 15. When Santa arrived with his packages of toys and gift certificates the whole family was very surprised and excited to see him. As the children opened their presents one at a time, smiles spread across everyone’s faces. The looks on their faces said it all. Oh what joy!!

Later that evening, the next stop for this jolly old Santa was at the apartment of another family. This time a single mother with two small children ages 2 and 3. They, too, were surprised and delighted to see Santa appear at their door with his bag full of food and gifts for all. After sharing milk and cookies with them, he bid them all a Good Night.

As Santa drove away that night he had a big smile on his face, satisfied in knowing that this was a Christmas never to be forgotten by both of these grateful families. All this was made possible because of the thoughtfulness and generosity of the brethren of St John’s Lodge #9 Once again, they demonstrate the spirit of humanity that this Lodge follows all year long.

"The last of the buying was done this morning [Dec. 24-ed.] and the presents delivered (and food) to Carol (last name omitted) and her family by 11:00 AM. Her eyes where as big as saucers. She had the kids play in their rooms while I brought in the presents and she hid them. Special thanks to Joe DeWors for making a special trip to my home and to Hans Wehl for the gift certificates."

Editor's notes:

Each year St. John's Lodge No. 9 looks hard to identify needy families to help during the holiday season. Some of these families recieve some ongoing help as well because the Lodge feels that they need and deserve the help. The holiday help programs bring a lot of happiness to the membership. They know, through projects such as this, that they have made a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

As a matter of policy this website will not publish pictures of families receiving Lodge holiday gifts and food without the express permission of the recipients.
