From the East

Greetings from the East! Happy New Year!! Brethren - as your newly elected and installed worshipful master, allow me and our officers to thank you for your confidence and support in allowing us to serve your lodge. Our officer line is young and energetic - however, the words and wisdom of our elders (you know who you are) are always appreciated.

St. John's is well known within the Puget Sound as being philanthropic in its support of it's many charities, arts and concordant bodies. Recent fluctuations in the market required that we adjust our annual
spending, yet I am proud to say that we are still dedicated to good works and have budgeted $100,000 for charities and scholarships for 2003. We will utilize these funds cautiously and carefully.

Our financial support, however, is not the only thing needed. We (you) still need to get personally involved to show support to the many charities and youth groups we fund. There isn't a Jobies Bethel, Rainbow Assembly or DeMolay Chapter that wouldn't be thrilled at just having you show your interest by attending their meeting! For many of you this may not be practical, but for those of you in a position to assist or fellowship with your brethren, I assure you, no willing hands will be denied. After all, the more the merrier.

By now every member should have received my personal message acknowledging your benevolence to our fraternity. We presently have around 60 to 70 brothers attend on a somewhat regular basis throughout the year. Unfortunately, there are roughly 180 of you within reasonable driving range of the lodge who for whatever reason do not attend any of our functions. We have provided a calendar of special events and meetings we will conduct (with or without your participation) along with a list of officers. We would greatly like to meet and greet those of you who wish to participate in our labors and privileges. I'm hopeful that many of you will make time in your busy schedules to share in our friendship, fellowship, and good times.

Give us a call. We can arrange transportation. We're looking forward to seeing you in lodge!!

Terry Grove, Master

Lodge Meets 2nd Wednesday in January

January's Stated is for the real procrastinator!

Twice each year St. John's Lodge No. 9 meets on the second Wednesday of the month. January is one of those months. Our newly installed WM Terry Grove invites members and visitors to join us for dinner at 6 pm, Wednesday, January 8, and for our Stated Meeting following at 7:30. WBro. Grove and his officers will be conducting their first meeting of the New Year.

On the agenda will be a discussion regarding a Grand Lodge Code change. Daylight Lodge No. 232 will be sponsoring a resolution to amend the Washington Masonic Code (WMC 17.05 B.L.) and has solicited St. John's support. The purpose of the change is to allow a Chartered Lodge to elect officers at it own discretion in a time period immediately following the close of Grand Lodge (approximately June 15) to December 14. The current Code requires elections to be held between September 1 and December 14.

Districts 4 & 5 to Gather to Meet, Dine With Grand Master James Reid
Mark your calendars for Districts No. 4 and No. 5 joint reception for the Grand Master, MWBro. James N. Reid, Jr. Come join us on this special occasion. The event will take place at Occidental Lodge No. 72, 2006 N.W. Market St in Seattle on February 1, 2003 beginning at 3:00pm, with dinner being served at 6:00pm. There will be a program for the ladies hosted by Diane Reid.
Dinner will be served at $10 per person. Due to the small size of the Lodge dinning room, prepaid reservations will be required. Please send your checks to VWBro. Bob J. Jensen, 23312 - 94th Place W., Edmonds, WA 98020-5006. The first 150 reservations will be seated.

The nine Worshipful Masters in District No 5 will give a short presentation, no more than a few minutes, on the state of their lodge. It will be their opportunity to "brag" about the state of affairs of their Lodge.. The afternoon will also include the presentation of the Pillars of Progress awards and the Grand Master's Achievement Awards by both Districts.

Christmas Entertainment

At our December meeting following dinner and prior to opening of Lodge, VWBro. David Julian, accompanied by members of the "Lodge choir," entertained the brethren with a medley of Christmas music. WBros. Skip Albertson, Jeff Lane, and Ken Lane, Jr. led the body in song.

Dues Reminder

30 members have still to pay their 2003 dues.

Dues were payable by December 31, 2002. Remember, that you cannot serve as a Lodge officer during the first year your dues are delinquent. After the first year, you lose your membership unless the members of the Lodge vote to grant you a waiver. Dues for 2003 are only $9!
