January Stated Communication
At 6:00 PM on Wednesday, January 8th Terry Grove, St. John's Lodge's Worshipful Master for the year 2003 invited the membership and visitors to enter the dining room for our monthly supper. After the Chaplain said a prayer for the repast everyone sat down to catch up on one another's holidays and to eat.

This month Steve fed us stuffed chicken breasts, mashed potatos, mixed vegetables, rolls and butter, and for dessert ice cream and apple pie.

Following the meal everyone retired to the Lodge room for a presentation on the accelerated reading program by teacher Debbie McDonald from Rogers Elementary School.

Ms. McDonald thanked the Lodge for its funding of the software and books that made the program feasable in the school and she told the Lodge that due to the program 85% of the students met WASL requirements for their grade level. She went on to tell us that without the program teachers at the school would be hard pressed to help many of the students who had fallen behind their grade level in reading skills. She related that, due to St. John's Lodge No. 9, teachers do not have to worry about funding for
book tests and other material required to make sure the students get the help they need to excel in their studies.

She told the Lodge of cases where students had tested far below their grade level and because of the program had been able to bring themselves up to the level of their grade and were able to pass the required tests.

She then talked about the math portion of the program which St. John's Lodge also funds and we learned that equally wonderful results are found in this program. Rogers Elementary School
is grateful for the support of the Lodge and that support will continue as it is included in the Lodge budget for 2003.

Non Mason visitors then left the Lodge room and the monthly Stated Communication was held.

The first order of business was the installation of the Lodge Treasurer, Chaplain, Sr. Deacon, and Jr. Steward. These officers were unable to attend the public installation and so MWB Richard McCarty installed them at this meeting.

First to take his obligation was Bro. Joe DuWors, our Treasurer. Second was Bro. John DuWors, our Chaplain. Next Bro. Douglas Lidtz was installed as Senior Deacon. Last was Bro. Michael Gustafson who was installed as Jr. Deacon.

VWB Chuck Brockway, who served as Installing Grand Marshall for the installation then proclaimed all the officers as installed.

The ballot was spread on two petitions, one for affiliation and one for plural membership. Both were accepted by the membership and both brothers were welcomed into St. John's Lodge No. 9.

WM Terry Grove then took committee reports and some fun was had over reports of functions far into the future on which no
action has yet begun as well as a report on a committee function that serves little purpose but is, none-the-less, required.

Two Worshipful Masters and MWB Ken Robinson, PGM were in attendance at this meeting and were accorded appropriate honors as were all other visiting brethren.

At about ten o'clock, WM Terry Grove closed Lodge after telling the brethren that future meetings will be over much sooner and everyone reluctantly went back to their lives away from the Lodge.

Peace and Harmony prevailed as it always does at St. John's Lodge No. 9.
