 | | At about 5:30 PM on Wednesday, April 2nd brethren began to arrive and catch up on one anothers lives. This month we had three prospective members attend our social hour, dinner, and pre-meeting festivities.
The membership went all out to make them feel welcome and wanted at St. John's Lodge. |
| Grand Master James N. Reid Jr. arrived early with his lady and many members and guests had the chance to chat with him prior to dinner. MW Bro. Reid is a very outgoing man and is easy to talk with. It is always a pleasure to have the chance to speak with him one on one. | | |
 | | At 6:05 we entered the dining room and, after the prayer, sat down to an excellent dinner of tossed green salad, beefsteak, baked potato, and mixed vegetables. For dessert we enjoyed ice cream and apple pie. |
 | | Following dinner all present adjourned to the Lodge room where WM Terry Grove presented Mike James, President and Dan Peterson, Executive Director of the Seattle Youth Symphony a check in the amount of four thousand dollars for their organization.
Mr. James then told the Lodge that the Youth Symphony has been |
active since 1942 and about 25% of the instruments in the Seattle Symphony are graduates of the programs offered by the Youth Symphony. The Seattle Youth Symphony is probably the most successful group of its type in the United States and many other Youth Symphony groups try to emulate its methods. He went on to say that St. John's Lodge has played a large part in its success for forty of those years. The brethren are very proud of the support they give this worthy organization.
Dan Peterson then told the Lodge that the Youth Symphony organization hopes for a long continuance of the support of St. John's Lodge and was assured that the Lodge takes its support of the organization very seriously each and every year. |
Guests were then excused and the Masons and visitors sat as Lodge was opened. The usual business of the Lodge was handled with dispatch and committee reports were mostly put off. A new Master Mason did his proficiency before the Lodge and the Grand Master and was found worthy. He signed the book and is now a Master Mason in good standing in the Lodge. A memorial was done for a fallen Brother.

| Two petitions for the degrees were read. The King Solomon golf tournament was discussed and any member desiring to play who has yet to sign up should contact the Lodge secretary immediately. The Family Brunch was also discussed and members need to return their reservation cards as soon as possible so the count will be known. |
 | | Grand Master James N. Reid Jr. was then escorted by VWBro Chuck Brockway to the altar and then the east where WM Terry Grove welcomed him to St. John's Lodge and turned the meeting over to his keeping. The Grand Master then called for Senior Warden Michael Rust to come the East where he was given his certificate of proficiency in Lodge Management. |
| Among our officers we now have three of these in hand: The Worshipful Master, Terry Grove, Senior Warden, Michael Rust, and Secretary, James Russell. An excellent showing by the Lodge and it shows that we care about our ritual work and that our officers have an excellent grasp of the Masonic Code of the Grand Lodge of Washington. |
| The Grand Master then talked about the Rosicrution organizations and some other interesting subjects. The Grand Master knows a great deal about history as it relates to the Masonic order having studied the subject for most of his adult life. It is always a pleasure to hear him speak on these subjects. Before we knew it the time had passed and the Grand Master had to run to catch his ferry back to Bremerton. | | |
| He told the Lodge that due to unfriendly ferry schedules he would be unable to close the Lodge. He was then escorted to the altar where he signed the Lodge Bible. He then ran to catch his boat. |
At 9:55 PM Lodge was closed in due form by WM Terry Grove and the Brethren and visitors went their separate ways until the Family Brunch brings us all together again on May 4th at 8:30 AM at Ivar's Salmon House.
