August Stated Communication
Pictures by WB Charles Tupper
At five-thirty on a beautiful summer day the membership, scholarship recipients, and the scholarship recipient's families gathered for St. John's Lodge No. 9's annual Scholarship dinner. The members were pleased to see so many of our recipients and to have the opportunity to chat with each of them and decide which of them to join for supper.

Having supper in the large dining room at the round tables made for intimate conversations among those present for this happy occasion. Each of our recipients and their companions sat at different tables and the membership of the Lodge joined them. Between the tables the members had the opportunity to get to know

these young people almost as well as does our scholarship committee. The Lodge's webmaster sat with a young man who is going to take Computer Science and knows a great deal about the subject already. He will be a fine student as will all of our recipients.

At about 7:30 the scholarship recipients and their families and friends went on their way and the membership retired to the Lodgeroom for the August Stated Communication. Many of our members are vacationing but there was an excellent turnout for this time of year.

The picnic was discussed and the Lodge expects a fine turnout for the event. Steaks and Chicken will be provided by the Lodge and the membership will bring all the side dishes. Once again we will have the bounce house, haystack coin hunt, and all the other games that are the hallmarks of the picnic - including the annual Bingo game. As it is each year, this year's picnic will prove to be a fun time for the entire family.

WM Terry Grove then had the Lodge do a memorial for Bro. Melvern J. Nyhagen. It seems that the Lodge is doing more and more memorials for out brethren as we progress into the twenty-first century and all are missed.

WM Terry Grove asked the Lodge to consider raising the amount allocated for entertainment at our Anniversary gala and this will be voted upon at the September Stated Communication. It was stated that the Lodge would then have the entire show rather than a cut back version and it is hoped for and expected that the resolution will pass at the next Stated.

Other business was taken care of and the brethren parted at about 9:30 until we meet again on the 16th at the Annual Picnic. Peace and harmony prevailed as it always does at St. John's Lodge No. 9.
