April Stated Communication

Promptly at six o'clock the brethren, friends, and guests of St. John's Lodge No. 9 sat down in the small dining room for the April Stated's pre meeting meal. The pre meal prayer was said and Salad, stuffed chicken breast, mixed vegetables, and dessert were consumed by all present with much gusto.

We were happy to welcome a visitor to the meal who was interested in taking a look at the membership and the fraternity. Talk went as usual as the brethren caught up on events in one another's lives since the last time we met. There were several visitors from Grand Lodge at dinner and they were made very welcome by the membership.

Our regular serving lady, Bobbi, made an appearance on crutches as she injured her leg and is presently out of commission. She received a hearty round of applause for taking the time to come by and say "hi." We all hope she recovers quickly and is back with us at our monthly suppers soon. She must have already had supper as she did not sit with us and partake of a very excellent meal.

Announcements were made at the table as is the custom of St. John's Lodge to do rather than have them at the meeting at the end.

Following the meal everyone retired to the Lodgeroom where Detective Heinz of the Seattle Police Department's Fraud Squad spoke on the subject of Identity Theft. The talk covered the ways that identities are stolen and the problems faced by law enforcement in catching these thieves. She gave everyone present a sheaf of information on how to protect oneself from this type of theft and what to do in the event that it happens anyway.

Everyone learned a lot about this type of theft and, hopefully, the membership is better able to protect itself becuase of this presentation.

At 7:30 the guests departed the Lodgeroom and WM Mike Rust opened Lodge for the April Stated Communication. The ususal business of the Lodge was quickly dealt with and the Lodge had a memorial for a departed Brother. Visitors were asked to stand and the WM welcomed all to St. John's Lodge No. 9 and the Lodge gave all a hearty welcome.

It was announced that Bro. Bob Rogers had died as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accicent during the afternoon of our meeting day. A loss to the Lodge as Bro. Bob was a steady contributor to Ionic Lodge for many years until his health deteriorated to the point that he could no longer attend meetings.

A report on the presentation of our financial help at an awards assembly at the school and of St. John's Lodge No. 9's support of the Accelerated Reading program and of the Library at Cedar Way Elementary School was given to the Lodge. Every member of the Lodge is pleased that the Lodge is having a such success with helping our area's youth to excell in their studies.

VWB David Campbell announced that a Rainbow Chapter will be visiting St. John's Lodge No. 9 at our May Stated Communication.

The WM of King Solomon Lodge was at the meeting to thank the Lodge for its support of the Golf Tournament that King Solomon has each year.

Two tables at the Grand Lodge fellowship dinner were authorized and a check will be sent to Grand Lodge immediately to cover the expense.

The Wardens spoke about their experience at the Wardens Seminar and they seemed to get something out of the experience.

This meeting was notable because of the fun that the membership had during the business meeting. Everyone enjoyed every minute and even those visiting from the Grand Lodge team remarked upon how the Brethren of St. John's Lodge No. 9 enjoy themselves at all portions of a Meeting night - from the dinner invocation to the parting at the end of the meeting. If you are a member of St. John's Lodge living withing the length of your cabletow to the Lodge and you do not attend the meetings you are really missing something special.

The Worshipful Master then closed the Lodge at about nine PM. Peace and harmony prevailed, as it always does, at St. John's Lodge No. 9.
