St. John's Lodge No. 9's 2004 Masonic Park Campout

Story by Bro. Jim Wold, Jr. Deacon

As this was our first campout, I decided we better get a place that could accommodate even the most novice camper. I reserved the big shelter and the RV spaces that
accompanied it.

We also took the adjacent shelter named Chuckie. Chuckie, we found out from Bill Collison, was a soldier killed in Vietnam. This shelter was a memorial to Chuckie from his parents and where we spent the majority of our time.
It had back to back fireplaces, one we used for a fire the other we used brickets and barbecuing. Masonic Park has an abundance of cut firewood that is provided free with your camping experience.Needless to say we keep the fire going most of the weekend.

Friday night brought out the Collison's,Brockways,Tupper's and Wehl's, Hans, his son Randy and grandson Foster.Foster really enjoyed the vast openess and play equipment the park provided. While Foster played, the grown ups were getting their sites set up,enjoying the fire and the fellowship.

I am not sure if any pictures exist but I hear a picture of Han's sleeping on the floor is very much in demand.

Saturday morning brought sunshine and walks through the park.

By afternoon, picnicers Terry Grove his friend Terry, Jim Russell, Ken Wehl and daughters, Mark and Katie Campbell and their dogs Ladybug and Penny arrived.

The afternoon brought a torrential downpour. We waited it out under the cover of Chuckie and by the fire.

That evening we had a potluck, everyone brought something to add from entrees to salads, beverages and deserts.

I seem to remember some really big steaks and an arterty clogging chocolate bread pudding. The evening was finished out by the fire playing dominos and fellowship.

Sunday we got up and had breakfast cooked on a cast iron gridle atop a small propane barbecue.
Overall I believe everyone really enjoyed the atmosphere that the park provides. Also, I would encourage anyone that has not yet visited the park to give it a try.

St. Johns No. 9 will hold this event next year and on into the future. We envision a Lodge barbeque on the Saturday night at the next year's camping weekend and hope that more and more of our members, and their families, will take this Lodge sponsored opportunity to camp out in a beautiful campground setting with modern conveniences for camping comfort. We are sure that all will have a wonderful time with other members and their families.
