On one of the most beautiful balmy summer days we have seen this year St. John's Lodge No. 9 met at picnic area B at the Nile Golf and Country Club for its annual picnic.
This area was perfect for St. John's Lodge No. 9 as this area is large enough for all members and guests but is not so large that everyone gets "lost" among the tables.
| | This year the Lodge had many cooks. Not too many, however, to "spoil the broth" as the food was cooked to perfection. It seemed that we had much more help this year than we have had in the recent past for the preparation and laying out of the food brought by the members families (and there were plenty of different dishes to choose from) for all to enjoy. |
| By noon everyone present was sufficiently "starved" from smelling the odors from the cooking steaks, chicken, and hot dogs. They eagerly lined up and began to fill their plates. There were enough that it took about a half hour for everyone to get through the line. For the next hour little was heard but eating utensils and the quiet conversation of well fed people. | | |
After everyone was fed the games scheduled for the afternoon were set up and our Junior Deacon, Jim Wold, acted as director for the various activities. He had help setting up but was left to run the activites himself and he did a tremendous job for the Lodge.
This Brother has fast become a mainstay of our Lodge activites. He is
| always at the forefront getting things done. There are many members and Past Master's who work behind the scenes to get these things accomplished and Brother Wold works with them so that all others can enjoy the good times provided. |
| While the children had sack races, coin hunts, and other games many of the adults played croquet, badminton, and bingo. Others just sat around and enjoyed the company on a warm summer afternoon | | |
| This years picnic was an unqualified success. and WM Mike Rust appreciated all the efforts made by those who put this event together, worked all day to make it a success, and cleaned up afterward. He was everywhere at once, it seemed, and he met and spoke with all who attended. This picnic gives us a benchmark to surpass with the next St. John's Lodge No. 9 annual picnic. | | |
