May Stated Communication
Pictures by WB Charles Tupper
Six o'clock on a fine May Wednesday evening brought the Brethren, visitors, and guests of St. John's Lodge No. 9 together for the monthly supper, program, and Stated Communication. This month the Lodge was host to members of four Rainbow for Girls Chapters and visitors from the City of Hope as well as two visitors who came to us through this website.

Steve did his usual excellent job of preparing supper and conversation was lively during the dinner hour. The Lodge met in the large dining due to the number of expected people this month. One hundred thirteen were in attendance for supper and the program.

There were many ladies present and the Lodge really appreciates the way that the families of our Brethren support our programs and endeavors. We are always most pleased when we have the opportunity to visit with one another's family members.

Following the meal everyone retired to the Lodgeroom where Janine McDonough talked about her work at the City of Hope as an image consultant. She works with patients to help them look their best while undergoing treatment which changes their looks, makes them lose their hair and causes other physical changes. She helpe them with their personal image and works with them so they can face the outside world without feeling that they don't look normal.

following Ms. McDonough's talk the Senior Warden, Joseph Lund, presented a check for the Ethipian Childrens Orphanage to that charity to further their work. The Orphanage is progressing on schedule and the Lodge is kept abreast of what is happening there on a continuing basis.

St. John's Lodge No. 9 disburses its charity budgeted items at various times to its several recipients throughout the year.

At 7:30 the guests departed the Lodgeroom and WM Mike Rust opened Lodge for the April Stated Communication. The ususal business of the Lodge was quickly dealt with.

The Scholarship committee took up most of the Stated Communication this month as it is the time of year when the recipients must know whether or not they will receive one of our scholarships. The Lodge voted to let the committee commit the Lodge to the selected students before the next Stated Communication so that school yearbooks, assemblies, and graduation ceremonies are able to let everyone know that these deserving students have received our aid to their futures.

The Lodge also voted to take our secretary out of the stone age and get him high speed cable internet access so that he will be better situated to deal with all functions of his place in the Lodge without having to wait long periods of time to transmit or receive over the Internet. He has been functioning with a 56k dial up connection for far too long.

The picnic was discussed and planning is well under way. There will be some new things this year that may surprise many of our picnicers. Games for both adults and children will be there and we will have our usual steaks as WB Ken Lane Sr. will make his usual run to get them for us. Be sure to mark your calendars for this event.

The Worshipful Master closed the Lodge at about nine PM. Peace and harmony prevailed, as it always does, at St. John's Lodge No. 9.
