June Stated Communication

The first of St. John's Lodge No. 9's casual dress summer meeting nights began with the brethren, friends, and guests gathering at about 5:45 for our monthly 6 PM supper. Promptly at 6 everyone entered the small dining room and the room was completely filled. A wonderful turnout for this time of year. Some members arrived late and graciously waited for those
already eating to finish eating to sit for their meal rather than have the other small room opened for their use.

Bobbi, our long time server, was back and is getting much better. She served us an excellent pork chop garnished with bacon along with baked potato and spring vegetables for supper. For dessert she served cookies and ice cream. A filling and very excellent meal. Steve outdid himself on this one.

We had two visitors who are interested in joining the fraternity

at this meal. They were most welcome and we hope they enjoyed the time with us and have a favorable opinion of our Lodge.

There was no program scheduled for the time between the meal and the Stated Communication this month so the time was spent visiting with one another. Sometimes it seems that we do too little of this. It is a welcome time for the members when this opportunity occurs.

Following the meal and visiting time everyone retired to the Lodgeroom for the June Stated Communication. WM Mike Rust opened Lodge on the Entered Apprentice degree in order to accomodate visiting EA's. The officers did an excellent job of the ritual work.

The usual business of the Lodge was accomplished and it was announced that WB Skip Albertson had torn his achilles tendon while unloading a seaplane. He will be laid up for about four to six weeks and, as he is the chairman of the scholarship committee, this will entail more than usual participation by the other members of his committee.

The Worshipful Master introduced all visitors to the Lodge and then had WB Bruno Zittlau escorted to the East.

It seems that WB Bruno presented a very modest bill for chocolate to the WM for treats made for a Lodge function and the WM promptly mislaid the bill. It was found sometime during the month and the WM wished to make amends to WB Bruno for the oversight and so he presented a
personal gift to the Brother.

It seems that our able Secretary and Treasurer were way ahead of the WM, however, and the bill was promptly paid when it was due so the WM's oversight did not matter in the long run. The thought was wonderful, however, and the membership really enjoyed the presentation.

There was discussion about the upcoming Lodge weekend campout at the Granite Falls Masonic Park. The Lodge has contracted use of the large bunkhouse and some of the electric capable campsites at the park and a large turnout is hoped for. Please put this on your calendar and come on up even if you don't plan on staying the weekend. It will be a very fun time for the membership. There is room for at least thirty of the members to camp and more space is available if needed.

The picnic was discussed and plans are coming along nicely. Everything will be in place but there may be a date change due to the availability of sufficient space and a workable kitchen area. Stay tuned for this and more information will be forwarded to the membership as it becomes available.

The Scholarship committee made a report and is almost finished for this School year. It will be holding some of the scholarship money back for the fall. There are some who will benefit from St. John's Lodge No. 9's fund who have gone home for the summer and won't be available for interview until later in the year. Final letters of acceptance by the committee will be in the mail by the middle of next week.

Two petitions were balloted, one for the degrees and one for affilitation. Both were accepted by the membership and a Entered Apprentice Degree will be scheduled for sometime this month. The homepage of the website will reflect the date when it is finalized.

The results of the King Solomon Golf Tournament were given to the Lodge and the membership of St. John's Lodge No. 9 did a reasonable job for sometimes golfers. WB Skip Albertson gave the other golfers some entertainment it seems. According to those in his foursome Skip's performance in the rough would have been worth seeing.

In keeping with his commitment to have short business meetings, WM Mike Rust closed Lodge at 9 PM until the SECOND Wednesday of next month. Peace and Harmony prevailed as it always does at St. John's Lodge No. 9.
