July Stated Communication
Pictures by WB Charles Tupper
This month was Herb's Night and we continually live in hope that all of our snowbirds with take this opportunity to attend their Lodge. Many of them do and we really enjoy their company when they are in Seattle.

This year the night was also designated Youth Night and all the Job's Daughter and Rainbow For Girls Assemblies and Bethels were invited for the
meal. Six of these groups attended the evenings festivities and were well received by the Brethren.

Bobbi, our long time server, is still wearing a leg brace but is doing much better and soon will be completely healed from her injury of a few months ago. Steve cooked the usual Herb's Night serving line dishes and after the invocation all lined up and filled their plates with excellent pork and beef dishes which were to be served over rice. An excellent feed and the one hundred ten people who

attended loved the meal.

There was at least one attendee who is looking at the possibility of joining the Lodge and we hope he came away with a favorable opinion of what we are and what we do.

After the meal was finished WM Mike Rust invited everyone into the Lodge Room and welcomed everyone to stay for all proceedings of the Lodge except the business portion and balloting which must be done in a tiled Lodge. He introduced Job's Daugthers Bethel No. 50 and the members of that Bethel presented the "Robe Talk."

Next, WM Mike Rust had all visiting Brethren, Lodge Officers, and Grand Lodge representatives stand and he went around and greeted each after which he had the Lodge accord them all a St. John's Lodge No. 9 welcome. Then he had Bro's Al Thornton and Isaac Solam escorted the the East where he presented each with a 50 year pin and certificate. The WM said that he felt a bit disconcerted doing this as each of these Brothers had been members of the fraternity longer than he had been alive.

VWB David Julian, our organist and this year's Grand Organist, then sang and played some very excellent pieces to the enjoyment of all present. It is always a pleasure to listen to VWB David perform.

Committee reports were then heard and the Lodge Picnic will be held on Sunday, August 15th at Area "B" at the Nile Country Club. As usual, those who wish to play Bingo need to bring a prize for the game. Other entertainment will include a roving magician, Badminton, and Croquet.

The Lodge Anniversary Celebration will be held at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center on September 10. Entertainment will be provided by a Swing Band which has told us that they will do everything possible to get everyone dancing. Help will be needed to decorate for this event during the day of the event.

Bro. Jim Wold said that the Lodge Camping Trip was a success and that everyone who attended had a wonderful time. This event will be held next year and it is hoped that more members will attend. Tentatively a Lodge Bar-B-Que will be held inconjunction with this event next year and the food will be supplied by the Lodge.

WB Ken Lane Jr. showed the Lodge the team pictures and one of the first place trophies that the St. John's Lodge No. 9 sponsored Little League won for the season just past. We are very proud of the accomplishments of these young men and are very appreciative of the efforts that WB Lane makes as coach of the Major League team

The youth groups were then invited to come down to the floor where they were all introduced to everyone present. WB Darrel Womack presented Rainbow Assembly No. 18 from West Seattle and he reported, with regret, that this is the only active Rainbow Assembly left in the Seattle Area.

The Job's Daughter Bethels were introduced by VWB David Campbell and he asked the advisors of these Bethels to introduce everyone present. The groups represented at our meeting were: Bethel No. 4 from Queen Anne, Bethel No. 28 from Ballard, Bethel No. 40 from Burien, Bethel No. 50 from Lynnwood, and Bethel No. 77 from Bothell.

The WM then asked WB Charles Tupper to give a short talk on the origins of the Fraternity and the Lectures of the degrees as performed in the Grand Jurisdiction. The talk was well received.

Memorials were then read and remembrances made for WBro. Elmer Burt, and Bros. Robert McBride, George Maynard, and Harry Luce.

Following this somber note all guests not members of the fraternity were excused from the Lodge room so that the usual business of the Lodge could be conducted.

The bills were paid, a petition for the degrees was favorably balloted, and Lodge was closed. A very successful meeting with 110 attending. Peace and Harmony prevailed as it always does at St. John's Lodge No. 9.
