 | | This month the weather for our meeting night was cooler than it has been for the past couple of meetings. Turnout was a bit light, however, for Scholarship Night. Four of our scholarship recipients and their families were in attendance. Also attending St. John's Lodge No. 9 for supper and the Stated Communication was MW Bro. Sat Tashiro, Grand Master of the MWGL F&AM of Washington. |
Steve prepared Chicken and Beef Ribs for our meal this month and the plastic aprons provided were much needed to keep white shirts white. Bobbi, sporting a new cast which she says will be on for another three weeks, served us in her usual efficient style. Due to the light turnout there were a number of leftovers which went home with all members or guests who desired a meal for the next day. |
 | | After the meal was finished WM Mike Rust had all recipients of scholarships rise and introduce themselves, their families and friends. Each of them also told us where they were going to school and what they are going to study with their scholarships. |
WM Mike Rust then thanked the recipients for attending and gave the membership and visiting Masons a ten minute break before opening the Stated Communication at 7:30 PM.
Lodge was opened on the Entered Apprentice degree and the WM had visiting members and officers of other Lodges stand and introduce themselves. He then had the Grand Lodge Team escorted into a semi-circle East of the Altar where he introduced each and had the Lodge accord them the Public Grand Honors. He then had the Senior Deacon seek out the Grand Master and his escort (VWB Chuck Brockway) and had him escorted to the altar where he met the Grandmaster, escorted him to the East, and had the Lodge accord MWB Sat Tashiro the Public Grand Honors. He then invited the Grandmaster to preside over the Lodge and the Grandmaster deferred to the Master to run the meeting while he sat beside him to offer support and an (it appeared to this member) occasional joking comment.
The usual business of the Lodge was then quickly dispensed with and the WM heard a couple of committee reports.
The annual picnic is going to be better than ever with more games for adults and children alike. It will be held at the Nile Golf and Country Club at picnic area "B" on Sunday, August 15th with food service beginning at noon.
The changeover to a server that offers web mail is going slowly due to problems with the server which caused the web site to be down for two days during the past month but will be accomplished soon.
One of our Brothers is doing as well as can be expected following a second head injury suffered in yet another automobile accident last month. He is in a nursing home and is being regularly visited. For further information on this Brother please contact the Lodge Secretary.
The anniversary preparations are progressing on time and will be an excellent event. The WM is opening this event up to the WM's of other Lodges this year and the Lodge hopes that some of these will attend.
There will be an important vote next meeting and this subject will be addressed in the upcoming Trestleboard. It concerns the mid year review of the Lodge Budget and the votes are on the recommended changes which need to be made to our Budget.
There being no further business, Lodge was closed at 8:40, peace and harmony prevailing as it always does at St. John's Lodge No. 9. The brethren then retired to the dining room where Italian Sodas and Strawberry Shortcake awaited everyone.
Following this excellent dessert, the membership went its separate ways until we meet again for the Annual Picnic.
