December Stated Communication
Pictures by WB Charles Tupper
The members of St. John's Lodge No. 9 and its guests and visitors entered the dining room promply at 6 PM for the monthly repast before the Stated Communication. The room was filled once again and the partition to the small dining room was opened to seat the overflow. Merle E. Luther Chapter of DeMolay and two of their advisors joined us for supper this month.

Our staunch waitress, Bobbi, is finally well and was getting about with a spring in her step. We are pleased for her.

She served salad, prime rib, baked potato, vegetable, rolls and butter. and everyone enjoyed the meal and the many conversations around the tables.

Following the repast everyone repaired to the Lodge room where Merle E. Luther Chapter of the Order of DeMolay talked to us about their Leadership Conference. The spokesman for the Chapter was Ryan Russell who is our Secretary's grandson.

They answered questions about what they learned at the conference and what benefit they thought it
held for their Chapter.

St. John's Lodge No. 9 funded attendance at this conference for three of their members.

The WM opened Lodge on the Master Mason Degree and an exemplary Master Mason proficiency was heard by the membership. WM Rust then called down to the Second Degree and the Fellowcraft Masons outside the Lodgeroom waiting were admitted.

Visitors were introduced and these included Sr. Grand Warden Charles W. McQuery who was escorted to the East and remained with the Master for the meeting. The usual business of the Lodge was quickly dispensed with.

The 2005 budget was the next order of business and after some discussion and explanation of the various parts of this document the Lodge overwhelmingly passed it. This budget includes a new item for Lodge outside activities geared toward membership comeraderie and membership acquisition. Also, the charity line items are being reworked so as to show the actual interest of the Brethren in charities in which they are actually involved with personally. The guidelines for Lodge funds and the form for filling out a request for these funds is available from the Secretary. It is also on this website in a convenient form accessable from the menu or the link above for members to use and easily send to the Secretary for action by the Trustees.

One petition for plural membership was read and two petitions, one for affiliation and one for plural membership, were favorably balloted.

One member was suspended for non-payment of dues and two were granted a continuance for the next year.

A Lodge of sorrow was opened for the year 2005.

Funds were authorized by using the remainder of the holiday line item from the budget and a large amount was authorized from the remainder of the charity budget for the holiday committee to use for Christmas cheer to needy people at Ft. Lewis and those families that the Lodge helped at Thanksgiving.

It was announced that the membership would have its first outing on the 15th at the Oak Tree Cinemas to view "National Treasure."

The Sr. Grand Warden spoke to the Lodge about working together for the future and then the Master called the Lodge from the Fellowcraft degree to the Master Mason degree. He then turned the Lodge over to the elected officers for the next year and WM elect Joseph Lund and his corps of officers closed the Lodge at about 9:30 PM.

Peace and Harmony prevailed as it always does at St. John's Lodge No. 9.
