First to be installed was Bro. Michael S. Rust. Bro. Michael S. Rust was born near New York City on July 27, 1957. Following his high school graduation and brief exile in Bethlehem, Pa at Lehigh University, he emigrated from the east coast and attended the University of Washington and Western Washington State University. From the latter he received a degree in technology education and geology. Though the greater part of his education was osmotically infused from his work as a machinist, cabinetmaker, sailing instructor and boat bum.
Bro. Rust spent a few too many years in the Seattle area as a teacher at the high school and community college level, paying his dues

for those years spent as a student in similar surroundings in New York. During that time he taught Earth Science, Machine Shop, Building Construction, and Physics. For the last few years, he has traded in his "teacher clothes" for those he is much more comfortable in - those of a union electrician. Oddly enough, the tuxedo - as worn by St Johns' officers- does seem to have a positive effect on him.
Michael is lovingly married to Alexandra (Alex) Rust, and together they raised two boys, Orion and Damian along with a fair number of German shepherd dogs.

The Secretary, Treasurer, Trustee, and the appointed officers were then installed.
WB Terry Grove was presented with a Past Masters apron, pin, and ring by WM Rust. WB Grove was asked for a few remarks and he mentioned that VWB Richard Oslund and VWB David Campbell had spent much of the past year visiting other Lodges with him on behalf of St. John's Lodge No. 9. He then called WB Charles Tupper and presented him with the 2003 Master's Service Award from St. John's Lodge No. 9.
VWB David Julian requested that he be allowed to perform a musical number for the outgoing Master. This was granted and everyone enjoyed a wonderful musical interlude.
Worshipful Master Michael Rust was then presented with a rosewood gavel from his lady, Alexandra. After receiving the gavel he proceeded to the altar where WB Terry Grove had him sign the Bible as the 130th Master of St. John's Lodge No. 9. Following this the past principle elected officers met at the altar and exchanged pins with those now holding those offices.
The 144th installation of officers was then adjourned. |
