Members Cook For University District Teens
 | |
| The Brothers of St. John's Family along with members of their families met at the University Congregational Church at about 5 PM on October 7th to prepare and serve a huge steak dinner to the homeless youth of the University District Area. More help than we have ever had at this event showed up to help and the many hands made light work of the meal. Over sixty kids were fed and all loved the food.

| Lodge Celebrates its 145th Anniversary |
 | | Well over 100 attended the 145th annual dinner to celebrate the founding of St. John's Lodge No. 9. Couples danced to the music of Dina Blade and her jazz ensemble, and Bro. Ken Wehl entertained between sets with his magician's skill.. WBro. Joseph Lund acted as Master of Ceremonies, and presented a retirement gift to our investment councilor of 29 years, Mr. Maury Clark.
Bro. Iain Cameron arranged the festivities for the third year and did so with a flourish. The dining room was beautifully decorated and featured an impressive ice carving centerpiece depicting the lodge crest. |
A no host bar was available during the social hour leading up to the dinner of Cedar Planked Salmon with Saffron Chive, Orange Cognac Chicken, and Coffee Bean and Pepper Crusted Beef Skewer. Vegetarian lasagna was offered as an optional course. Whiskey Soaked Blackberry Cobbler topped with ice cream was served for dessert.

2005 Sunday Brunch
 | |
| This year's Sunday Brunch saw over 150 Brothers and their family members at Ivar's Salmon House on May 1st. The food was excellent and everyone enjoyed themselves. The restaurant goes all out for St. John's Lodge No. 9 to see that everyone is cared for and none go away unhappy or hungry.
This Brunch is a yearly event which is held to let members families know that the time our members are away from them at Lodge functions is appreciated by all of us. Were it not for the support of the members families the Lodge could not function.

Helping Our Children Learn
 | |
| Brethren of St. John's Lodge No. 9 visited Cedar Way Elementary School on May 25th to deliver a check to cover the costs of books and software for the Accelerated Reading Program at that school. On hand to receive the check was Principal Hawkins Cramer and the entire student body. Representing St. John's Lodge No. 9 were Secretary, James Russell, PM Terry Grove, WB Boe Lindgren, WB Darrel Womack, and SW Mark Campbell.
This is a project that St. John's Lodge began in 1999 in an effort to help educate the youth of our area. At the present time, Cedar Way Elementary is one of three schools that the Lodge is supplying with funding to upgrade their libraries and to buy the software for the Accelerated Reading Program.
The members of St. John's Lodge No. 9 watch the results of our help as shown by standardized testing. Also, representatives from these schools come to the Lodge and let the membership know what they need and how the program is working for their students. It is becoming increasingly obvious that this program is having an impact in upgrading the reading skills of the student bodies using the program.
We are very proud of the ongoing increase in the reading skills of these young people due to the dedicated teachers at these schools along with the aid of the supplied books and tools.

St. John's 9 "Masons" Little League Teams Are Repeat League Champions
 | |
| Last year's league champion Little League teams have done it again! The Minor Masons beat the Seattle Police 18-7 and the major Masons beat Happy Haulers 12-8! in the Championship games.

The Mason Majors won their first round playoff game! The leagues two best pitchers faced off. The final was 2-1 in a hard fought (HOT temperature!) game. The next day our Minor team won its first playoff game.
The Major Masons team won their second round playoff game against Lane Hardwood Floors on a damp and soggy field by a score of 1-0. The run was scored in the sixth and capped a very hard fought game. The next day our Minor team won its next playoff game by a score of 14-4.
The Lane Hardwood Floors teams are the Masons number one rival as they are sponsored by PM Jeff Lane of Lane Hardwood Floors. Good natured byplay always precedes the game when the two teams meet and it is always a fun time for the membership. It is regrettable in these games that one of the teams has to lose but, since one team has to, we would rather it be them rather than us.
The St. John's team Majors played their semi-final game on Tuesday, June 7th at 5:30 PM! They won. The Minor team also won their semi-final playoff game against Lane Hardwood Floors.

The Little League Championship Saturday is an event that must be experienced. Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, and all the baseball game trimmings are there and every team in the League is there to receive the awards they had earned during the season. It is a great day of baseball and this one was even better for us as the St. John's Lodge No. 9 teams won their championship games.
Our own major and minor Little League "Masons" were in first place the entire season!
Following the Little League division Championship our Major Masons Team went on to win the Division Champions Tournament. - Congratulations from the Lodge.
Our Little League "Masons" teams thank the Lodge for its support.

Underground Tour
| |
| Members, guests, and families of St. John's Lodge No. 9 met on Wednesday, June 15th, at Doc. Maynard's Public House to enjoy the Underground Tour of old Seattle. Over thirty people were in attendance and our tour guide took us on a journey through the history of our City. Under the Streets of Occidental Ave., Yesler St., and 1st Ave. we went while receiving an excellent talk on the formation of the city, the fire of 1889 and the rebuilding of the city which created the underground, the quick handling of the outbreak of bubonic plague in 1907 which put an end to the underground shops, and the rebuilding of the Pioneer Square portion of the City in the modern day.
Following the tour many of those attending met at Ivar's Fish Bar on the waterfront and enjoyed conversation and fish and chips. An excellent and fun evening and everyone went on their way happy to have attended.
The last building (2 story with two windows on the top floor) just separated by the street on the right hand side of the main business street and in the center in the above photo is the original St. John's Lodge No. 9 building in 1872.

Major Masons Little League District 8 Champions

Our Major's Masons Little League team has won the 2005 LL Tournament of Champions. The Tournament of Champions is a special invitational for the best 'regular season' teams in District 8 Little League. Our team was invited to compete in this tournament because they were the Championship team in the Northwest LL division.
Winning the Tournament of Champions makes our team the best of the 45 eligible major teams from 8 different Little League divisions in the district. Our Masons defeated the Northeast champions by a score of 18-1, Ballard 1 -0, and Magnolia 3-1.
The team held some of the very best hitting teams to an average of less than one run per game. This was accomplished by a combination of outstanding pitching from Andy Lang and Danny Thomson, excellent defense, and by the whole team stepping up to play their very best against the best.
In the 20 plus year history of the TOC, the Northwest LL division has only won the tournament one time before - in 2001 when Dr. Fogerty"s accomplished this feat.
Congratulations to the players, coaches, and everyone who supported our Team through the season.
