Isaac Albert Ovadia - 11/1/13 - 12/31/04
Isaac A. Ovadia died suddenly Friday, December 31, at his winter residence in Palm Springs, California. A Seattle native, exhibited artist and prominent jeweler for more than 53 years, he owned and operated Allen's Fifth Avenue Jewelers in downtown Seattle. Mary, his wife of 66 years, was at his side.
Bro. Ovadia was born November 1, 1913, at the home of his parents, Albert and Rosa Ovadia. He was the second of six children He graduated from Garfield High School in 1932 and the University of Washington in 1937. At age 10, he began working as a pharmacy delivery boy, then sold flowers, and eventually acquired a newspaper stand. In high school, our brother began working at his father's fish stall in the Pike Place Market, where he worked through college. He was an exhibited painter who started his study and love for art at 12 years old, setting aside a portion of his earnings to pay for art classes at the Cornish College of the Arts. He was active in Garfield high school's team sports and was a member of his college ROTC program.
Bro. Ovadia met his future wife, Mary Sedis, in his high school typing class. They went steady for the next six years and were married in 1938. During their 66-year marriage, they shared a passion for life, travel, cooking, golf, fishing, sporting events, the arts, and most of all, family.
Ovadia was a gemologist whose life-long dream came true when he opened Allen's Fifth Avenue Jewelers. Together, he and his wife Mary owned and operated Allen's for 21 years.
Bro. Ovadia was initiated an Entered Apprentice Mason into Ionic Lodge No. 90 on September 12,1945, passed to a Fellowcraft, October 10, 1945, and raised a Master Mason, January 31, 1946. He received his 40-year and 50-year pins, and was a Mason for 59 years. A lifelong member of the Scottish Rite, he advanced to the office of the Master of Kadosh. As a member of the Shriners, he enjoyed playing in the drum and bugle corps. Bro. Ovadia was a member of the Congregation Ezra Bessaroth, Glendale Country Club and the Palm Springs Artists' Council.
He is survived by his wife Mary and his two daughters Rosemary Ovadia and Shirley Barer (John Hocknell), and his son Albert Ovadia (Virginia). He is also survived by his six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A Funeral Service was held January 6 at Evergreen-Washelli Cemeteries followed by a graveside service at the Seattle Sephardic Brotherhood Cemetery

Wilfred LeRoy Bergman - 11/22/21 - 12/21/04
Wilfred LeRoy Bergman was born November 22, 1921, in Butte, Montana. He married Marie Hendricksen, who preceded him in death.
Bro. Bergman was a construction estimator when he was initiated into St. John's Lodge No. 9 on May 30, 1953, then passed to a Fellowcraft, June 27, 1953, and raised a Master Mason, July 25, 1953. He was a member of the Craft for 51 years.
Bro. Bergman retired and lived in Freeland, WA for several years. Our Brother left these shores, December 21, 2004. He is survived by his good friend and beloved second wife, Barbara

Oscar Smyrl Bradley - 7/4/18 - 12/27/04
Bro. Oscar S. Bradley was born July 4, 1918, in Kershaw, South Carolina. Bro. Bradley married his wife Phyllis, and raised two children. He served as a pressman for the Seattle P.I. for many years until his retirement.
Bro. Bradley was initiated into Ionic Lodge No. 90, May 5, 1976, passed to a Fellowcraft, September 1, 1976, and raised a Master Mason October 20, 1976. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Nile Shrine. Bro. Bradley was a Mason for 28 years.
Our Brother passed to that Celestial Lodge, December 27, 2004, leaving his wife Phyllis and two children, John D. Bradley and Susan Bradley.

Glenn Robert Swingler - 2/25/17 - 10/4/04
Bro. Glenn Robert Swingler was born February 25, 1917, in Tacoma, WA. He was married to his loving wife Elaine for 61 years. The Swinglers raised three girls and three boys.
Bro. Swingler was initiated into St. John's Lodge No. 9, March 10, 1951, passed to a Fellowcraft, April 14, 1951, and raised a Master Mason, April 28, 1951. He was awarded his 40 year pin in 1994 and his 50 year pin November 16, 2001. He was a member of the Nile Shrine
Bro. Swingler suffered a stoke in October of 1997. He joined the Great Architect of the Universe October 4, 2004, leaving his wife, Elaine, and five children; Nancy (Bill) Basl, Sally (Erik) Rongren, Steve, and Richard; and four grandchildren.

Ernest Samuel Harding - 7/13/08 - 2/15/05
VWBro. Ernest Samuel Harding was born in Reading, England, July 13, 1908. He was initiated into Seattle Chapter, Order of DeMolay, in 1925. As a young man, VWBro. Harding worked as a clerk for Sears & Roebuck and later spent almost 10 years as an assistant curer and cooper for Oceanic Fisheries Company. VWBro. Harding worked 31 years in experimental mock-up for the Boeing Airplane Company.
VWBro. Harding, who was known to family and friends as "Sam," was raised in Green Lake Lodge No. 149, September 11, 1930, at the age of 22. He was passed to a Fellowcraft, September 25, 1930, and raised a Master Mason, October 16, 1930. VWBro. Harding demitted to St. John's Lodge No. 9 on January 26, 1935. In the early 1970s he was active on the visitation committee and in 1974 he became the Lodge's representative to the Seattle Masonic Temple Association. As Senior Warden, he acted as Master of St. John's Lodge for most of 1974 after WBro. Julius Bretz became ill. He served as Master of this Lodge in 1975. VWBro. Harding was appointed Deputy of the Grand Master for District No. 5 for two years, June of 1978 through June of 1980. He served on St. John's Board of Trustees from 1986 to 1994, until his illness forced him to retire from active participation. He was also a member of the Ballard Chapter of the Royal Arch, the Scottish Rite, and the Nile Shrine. He was a Mason for 74 years.
VWBro. Harding liked fixing things and had a passion for making and repairing vintage wooden clocks. He took great pride in his restoration of one antique Ithaca clock. He repaired and restored the antique to like-new condition, replacing the pendulum and cords and making new weights and hands that he cast from lead. The clock is still in excellent condition and can be found at the Masonic Library and Museum in Tacoma.
VWBro. Harding passed to that celestial lodge February 15, 2005. He is survived by his wife Margaret. A Masonic memorial ceremony will be held in his honor, Sunday, March 6.

William H. Hull - 7/2/09 - 8/23/04
William H. "Bill" HULL Age 95, was called to our celestial lodge, August 23, 2004, to be reunited with his beloved wife, Arlee. Bill was born July 2, 1909, in Seattle, Washington. He graduated from Seattle's Broadway High School and attended Washington State. Bill worked as a salesman for Texaco for many years.
Our brother was initiated into Ionic Lodge No. 90, December 12, 1945, passed to a Fellowcraft, March 20, 1946, and raised a Master Mason, August 21, 1946. He received his 50-year pin in 1996. He was a Mason for 58 years.
Bro. Hull was pre-deceased by his daughter Janis Lane. He is survived by daughter, Joanne Pewtress and her husband Doug, three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandson. At his request, no services were held. Arrangements by Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Bill's name to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County

Edward H. Wagner - 5/2/16 - 4/21/05
Edward Herman Wagner passed away on April 21, 2005. He was born May 2, 1916 in Sherwood, Oregon.
Ed was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Prior to the war Ed was one of the founding partners in Skyline Electric of Seattle. Following the war he worked for Boeing, starting in the model shop and then traveled extensively in Europe for the gas turbine division. He moved to Bellingham in 1964, where he owned and operated the Cannon Electric Company until he retired in 1977, selling the business to son Michael.
Bro. Wagner was initiated an Entered Apprentice in St. John's Lodge No. 9, June 10, 1943, passed to a Fellowcraft, July 10, 1943, and raised a Master Mason, August 12, 1943. He received his 50 year pin in 1993. He was a member of the Craft for 62 years.
Ed enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, golfing, bowling (with the highlight of a 299 game), playing poker and researching his genealogy. His sense of humor and ability to do anything he set his mind to will be missed by all that knew him.
Bro. Wagner was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alma Wagner; his wife of 42 years, Hazel Wagner; sisters, Minnie and Helen; granddaughter, Sara; step-children, Sally and Richard Baker and Rick Warner.
He is survived by Elaine, his wife of 22 years; children, Karen Rodda, Bob and Carole Wagner, Michael and Debra Wagner; grandchildren, Kathy, David and Alicia Rodda; Stacey and Dennis Talley, Leslee and Tom Cox, Edward G. Wagner; great-grandson, Devon Bennett. Stepchildren, Ronnie and Dorlis Perry, Bonnie and Doug Simpson, Sue and Steve Haehnel; numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation, 800 E. Chestnut #1-C, Bellingham, WA 98225. Graveside services were held at Greenacres Memorial Park, Bellingham, on Thursday, April 28th at 1:00pm, with Rev. Skip Suess officiating. Masonic funeral services were provided by Bellingham Bay Lodge #44, F&AM.

George Harrison Price - 3/5/31 - 6/3/05
George Harrison Price as born March 5, 1931 in Michigan City, Indiana to Harry and Elizabeth Price. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Bausell during the Korean War. WBro. Price worked for the City of Seattle as a diesel mechanic for 32 years.
WBro. Price was initiated into Gresham Lodge No. 152, Gresham, Oregon, May 3, 1952, passed to a Fellowcraft March 23, 1953, and raised a Master Mason, March 30, 1953. Our brother affiliated with Roosevelt Lodge No. 229 on November 12, 1992, and served as its Master in 1995. He was very active in many branches of Masonry, including the Nile Shrine, and the York Rite as Past Commander of the Legion of Honor. He was a Past High Priest of both Gresham and University Chapters of the Royal Arch. He was presented his 50-year pin as a Freemason in 2003.
WBro. Price lost his fight with cancer June 3, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Loralee; sister Madeline Ihrke; niece Evelyn Ekstrom; nephews Robert and Jay Ihrke; and many other close family and friends.
Masonic graveside services were held Monday, June 13, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Kent, WA 98042. Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, Spokane Unit, 911 W. 5th Ave, Spokane, WA 99204 or charity of choice. Visitation was held Sunday, June 12, 2005 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Beck's Funeral Home, 405 5th Ave S., Edmonds, WA.

Francis Thayer Bean - 7/28/13 - 6/6/05
Francis Thayer Bean was born July 28, 1913, in Newport, Washington. He served in the US Navy during WWII on a "baby" aircraft carrier. 'Flags,' as he was known by his navy comrades and family, was in command of his ship in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. He served his country honorably and with pride, and was a credit to the highest traditions of the naval service, which he loved.
While serving in the navy, Bro. Bean was initiated into St. John's Lodge No. 9, March 13, 1943, passed to a Fellowcraft, March 27, 1943, and raised a Master Mason, April 10, 1943. He served as Marshal for this lodge in 1992 under Worshipful Master David Campbell. He was a member of the Seattle Scottish Rite. A Mason for sixty-two years, he received his 50-year pin April 15, 1993.
Bro. Bean was called by the Great Architect of the Universe, June 6, 2005. His wife Kathy preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter Evalyn C. Bean of Redmond; his son and daughter-in-law Frank and Laura Bean of Bellevue; grandchildren Eric and Carl Peterson, Kirsten Smids, Trevor, Kyle and Breanna Bean and one great-granddaughter Evalyn Lassiter.

Col. Edward Gustav Anderson, Jr. - 2/25/20 - 3/2/05
Col. Edward Gustav Anderson, Jr. was born February 25, 1920, in Seattle, Washington. He served in the United States Army during WWII, where he rose to the rank of an officer.
While serving in the army, Bro. Anderson was initiated into Elliot Bay Lodge No. 257, January 11, 1946, passed to a Fellowcraft, February 15, 1946, and raised a Master Mason, March 7, 1946. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Ballot Abyad Order of the Shrine in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A Mason for fifty-nine years, he was presented his 50-year pin May 1, 1997, by Temple Lodge No. 6, Albuquerque.
Bro. Anderson was called by the Great Architect of the Universe, March 2, 2005. He is survived by his wife Virginia, son Lieutenant-General Edward G. Anderson III, and daughter Cheryl Ney.

J. David Hampton - 3/13/27 - 6/28/05
WBro. J. David Hampton was born in Hempstead, New York, March 13, 1927. Bro. Hampton married Elise and raised a daughter, Meryl; and two sons, David G. and Glenn. He participated in WWII, and the Korean Conflict and became a member of our fellowship while he was in the military. He retired as a full colonel. As an electrician, he founded Hampton Electric, which his son operates today.
Our brother was initiated into Transportation Lodge No. 337, Newport News, Virginia, December 11, 1952, passed to a Fellowcraft, January 22. 1953, and raised a Master Mason, February 5, 1953. He affiliated with Lawton Lodge No. 292, later that year. He was a member also of Robert Burns Lodge No. 243. Brother Hampton dimitted from Transportation, Robert Burns and Lawton Lodges, affiliated with Genesis Lodge No. 305, and served as Master of Genesis Lodge in 1987 and 1990. Our brother affiliated with St. John's Lodge No. 9, September 7, 1994. He was very active in the Seattle Scottish Rite, receiving a red cap in the Knight's Commander Court of Honor (KCCH). He served as its lead chef with a leadership role in making improvements to the Scottish Rite kitchen. He later transferred to the Everett Valley. A member of the Nile Shrine, WBro. Hampton was a Mason for fifty-two years.
WBro. Hampton suffered a stroke five years ago, and was unable to attend lodge as he was bed-ridden in a nursing home. Following a series of small strokes, our brother passed to the Celestial Lodge, June 28, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Elise, his daughter and two sons. A Masonic Memorial Service was held at the Lynnwood Elks on July 9th.

Richard Henry Oslund - 3/10/26 - 6/18/05
Richard Henry Oslund was probably a Mason in his heart at birth. Our brother was born March 10, 1926, in St. Paul Minnesota. He found his lady love, Lois Marie, and they were married in 1954. The marriage lasted with love and devotion even beyond her physical death in 2002. The couple was childless but not without a legacy of caring friends and comrades. VWBro. Oslund was a printer by trade, serving for many years at the Seattle Times before his retirement.
A year before Richard's marriage to Lois, he was initiated an Entered Apprentice Mason in Montgomery Lodge No. 258, St. Paul, Minnesota, on January 22, 1953. He continued his degrees, passing to a Fellowcraft, February 19, 1953, and was raised a Master Mason, March 20, 1953. It was many years later that our brother dimitted from Montgomery Lodge and elected to join University Lodge No. 141, December 1, 1969. He served as Master of University Lodge in 1976. Our brother joined Walter F. Meier Lodge of Research No. 281 in 1981 and St. John's Lodge No. 9, November 7, 2001.
VWBro. Oslund was appointed Deputy of the Grand Master for District 31 in 1981 and 1982, serving in his dignified and devoted fashion two Grand Masters, MWBros. Herbert M. Edman and George R, Bordewick. He was active in the York Rite and the Shrine. He received the Grand Master's Achievement Award, August of last year. He was a Mason for fifty-two years.
Heart failure caused VWBro. Richard to join his beloved wife and the Great Architect of the Universe, June 18, 2005. Following cremation, a Eucharist and last rites will be observed with his family in the Chapel of the Resurrection at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral. A date for this service has not been set. Our brother will be honored with a Masonic Memorial service, 1pm this Saturday, July 23, at the University Masonic Temple.

Jack F. Treglown - 7/7/15 - 5/15/05
Jack F. Treglown was called to our celestial lodge, May 15, 2005, to be reunited with his beloved wife, Marjorie. Jack was born July 7, 1915, in Butte, Montana.
Our brother was initiated into St. John's Lodge No. 9, March 12, 1949, passed to a Fellowcraft, April 9, 1949, and raised a Master Mason, April 23, 1949. He received his 50-year pin in October, 1999. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Nile Shrine. He was a Mason for 56 years.
Bro. Treglown is survived by daughter, Gay Knutson.
Dear Brother, by the Plumb you have walked uprightly in your station before God and man; squaring your actions by the Square of Virtue. We bid you godspeed as you travel upon the Level of Time to that undiscovered country from whose bourne no traveler returns.

Maximino "Max" Flores - 5/15/28 - 8/28/05
Maximino "Max" Flores was born May 15, 1928, in Honolulu, HI. As a young man, Bro. Flores was a member of the Order of DeMolay. He and his wife Mikiko raised one son, Maxie Hideki Flores. Bro. Max was employed as a Marine engineer.
Bro. Flores was initiated into Maritime Lodge No. 239, September 28, 1972, passed to a Fellowcraft, January 25, 1973, and raised a Master Mason, February 22, 1973. Our brother dimited from Maritime Lodge in 1966 and affiliated with Ionic Lodge No. 90 on June 15, 1966. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, the York Rite, and the Nile Shrine. He was awarded the DeMolay Legion of Honor for his work with the young men of DeMolay.
WBro. Flores and his wife lost their lives in a fire by smoke inhalation while in Japan, August 28 of this year. He is survived by his son and other family and friends. Notice of his death was received from the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Hawaii.

Francis Edward "Frank" Cushman - 4/25/13 - 8/28/05
Bro. Francis Edward "Frank" Cushman was born to Francis and Margarite Cushman in Toppenish, Washington, April 25, 1913. As a young man he was a boomer, coal passer, and ashcat. Later he discovered surveying and made his life's work in that field as a brushcutter, rod man, and rear chainman. His marriage to Ethel Howe produced two daughters and a son.
Bro. Cushman was initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason into St. John's Lodge No. 9, February 24, 1973, passed to a Fellowcraft, March 31, 1973, and raised a Master Mason, May 26, 1973. He was appointed to office many times, serving as Junior Steward in 1974, Junior Deacon in 1975, Senior Deacon in 1976, Senior Steward from 1977 to 1979, and Marshal from 1981 through 1986. From August to December 1984, he was chosen to serve as acting Treasurer when Bro. Andrew C. Cowe resigned due to health problems. He was also Bible-bearer on the funeral team for many years
Bro. Frank Cushman served on the visitation committee more than 26 years - a beacon of hope for lodge brothers unable to attend meetings and widows of deceased members. He drove more than 200 miles in some months and made as many as 20 calls in a month on widows and ailing brothers.
In 1988, Bro. Cushman was presented the Master's Award of Merit by WBro. Jarrold Schuh for his tireless efforts to help the sick and lonely. On January 26, 1991, Bro. Cushman was presented the Hiram Award by Grand Master MWBro. Sidney Kase for distinguished service to the Craft. In 1996, he was presented the Grand Master's Achievement Award by MWBro. George Jurgich. For the first time anyone could remember, he was speechless.
Bro. Cushman was best known for his stories and tall tales. Many of his stories and philosophical pieces of wisdom can be found in past volumes of Walter F. Meier's Transactions, published annually, and on the St. John's web site listed under "Old Tyler's Corner."
In December 1997, Bro. Cushman was declared Tyler Emeritus for his service to St. John's Lodge. He had been Tyler since 1989. Bro. Cushman also served as Tyler for Thomas M. Reed Lodge No. 225, Theodore Roosevelt Lodge No. 229, and Daylight Lodge No. 232. He was distinguished as an Honorary Past Master at Thomas M. Reed. He was also a member of Walter F. Meier Lodge of Research No. 281, and fittingly, as one proud of his Scottish heritage, the Scottish Rite. He was a Mason for 33 years.
On February 4, 1998, Worshipful Master Paul Winter presented him a tile to be mounted on the wall just inside the entrance to the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. The inscription on the tile reads:

Bro. Cushman passed away, Sunday, August 28, 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife (1989) and son Frank Robert Cushman (1981). He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Cushman and Elaine Manheimer, and two brothers, Dan and Robert Cushman. He also leaves a loving companion of many years, Lois Boyle. Family services will be held in Olympia, WA.

Robert Eugene Dinwiddie, Jr. - 9/22/68 - 11/28/05
Bro. Robert Eugene Dinwiddie, Jr. was born in Kodiak, Alaska, September 22, 1968. Bro. Dinwiddie married Heather Farrar, who together gave birth to a son Zachary. Zachary was raised by Robert and his second wife, Bridgette.
Bro. Dinwiddie was initiated an Entered Apprentice Mason into Robert Burns Lodge No. 243 on October 26, 2004, passed to a Fellowcraft, March 9, 2005, and raised a Master Mason, April 18, 2005. He joined St. John's Lodge No. 9. July 13, 2005. He was a charter member of Esoterika Lodge, U.D. and Alba Lodge, U.D. Brother Dinwiddie was also a member of the Everett Valley Scottish Rite, and the founding Prior of the Everett Valley Chapter of the Knights of St. Andrew. He was also a member of Research Chapter No. 68, R.A.M., Snohomish, WA, and the Washington College, Masonic Societas Rosicruciana Civitatibus Foederatis.
Bro. Dinwiddie passed unexpectedly to that Celestial Lodge November 28, 2005. He is survived by his wife Bridgette M. Dinwiddie and son Zachary D. Dinwiddie, and family members father Robert Eugene Dinwiddie Sr., brother and sister-in-law Jeffrey and Julie Dinwiddie, brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Janet Dinwiddie, nieces Maya, Emma, and Ellie Dinwiddie, brother and sister-in-law Joshua and Katie Dinwiddie, sister and brother-in-law Lynnette Vanderveer, grandparents David and Bonnie Wheeler, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Masonic services were held at the Nile Shrine and Acacia Memorial Cemetery on Friday, December 9, 2005.
