Statement of Purpose It is the desire of members of St. John's Lodge No. 9 to provide both the Brothers of our great fraternity and non-members an understanding of the types of charities and organizations that we consider for funding. These guidelines should assist you with an understanding of the process St. John's Lodge No. 9 uses to determine which of these to support. We look at the following groups as patterns for our giving: children, seniors, local geography, visibility and personal commitment by our members to the particular charity. Proposals from our membership to the Lodge clearly state the reasons the member believes St. John's Lodge No. 9 should support a particular charity. They describe how the Lodge's donation will "make a difference" to the program or charity. For example:
It is the recommendation of the St. John's Lodge No. 9 Board of Trustees and desire of the Lodge to support those charities and organizations in which our members have shown their personal commitment. The requesting member should represent the charity or program on behalf of our Lodge. He should also report regularly to the Lodge how the charity is progressing and how our contribution is making a difference. To avoid potential conflict of interest, the member must identify if they are a paid employee or receive compensation from the charity or organization for which they are requesting support. Previous to the Lodge vote on any particular charity the member must explain how Masonry or this Lodge will benefit from the contribution or receive recognition. St. John's Lodge No. 9 does not report the amount of any donation on its website but we wish the public to know which charities and organizations we support each year. The following is a listing of our annual charity and organization donation recipients for Lodge year 2005:
