aurel Assembly of Rainbow for Girls served the Brethren a dinner of steak and baked potato with Lemon Merangue pie for dessert at St. John's Lodge No. 9 this month.  This Assembly is a newly constituted group from Black   Diamond,
Washington.  They are certainly an enthusiastic group of young ladies and we are pleased to be able to help them attend Grand Assembly this year.  We also look forward to a long association with this group.

During the meal the members, visitors, and guests were treated to violin music and a slide show provided by Bro. Chris Carney, our Junior Warden.  This was well done and set the tone for the evening.

Following the excellent meal everyone adjourned to the Lodgeroom where Mr. Herman Bischofberger had set up a table for his presentation.  Mr Bischofberger is a second generation Violin maker and is well known in the field.  He has been making instruments for over fifty years and his work is extrordinary.  His shop burned to the ground several years ago but he has recovered and is again making instruments.  It takes over 250 hours of labor to make a fine violin, viola, or cello and the cost is commensurate to the work.

Mr. Bischofberger's shop can be found at 1314 East John Street, Seattle, WA 98102.  There you can view a Leon Bernardel 1926, Emile Fetique 1875, and a Charles Bailly 1930 violin.  All are for sale and Mr. Bischofberger would be happy to take your order for a fine instrument.  On top of his own instruments he carries the German Bernd Dimbath and the Bulgarian Sofia lines along with other well known brands of excellent instruments. He also carries a fine assortment of bows, cases, and all the accessories you may need for your instrument.  See his website at  Bischofberger Violins Ltd.

Following this presentation our Brother, David Karpilow, principle violinist of the Cascade Symphony Orchestra, played four selections on his insrument.  These were chosen to display the different styles that are used in the symphony orchestra and were very well received by the Brethren.  Brother Karpilow was accorded a standing ovation by those present.

Due to the time required for the presentation guests were not excused until 7:50 PM and the Stated Communication began at 7:55 PM.

Lodge was opened on the Second Degree by Worshipful Master Charles Tupper at 7:55 PM with Worshipful Brother Joseph Lund as Senior Deacon, Worshipful Brother Hans Wehl as Marshal, and Worshipful Brother Jack Berg as Junior Steward.  All other installed officers were in their respective Stations and places.

The usual business of the Lodge was quickly dispensed with as the Secretary read the minutes of the previous Stated Communication and the Special Communication held for three Master Mason Degrees, read the bills which Lodge voted to pay, read our communications and passed a file containing all of them to the Brethren for further perusal, and the Treasurer reported that our portfolio has achieved a new all time high.  Good news indeed.

Committee Reports

Accelerated Reader

WB Joseph Lund reported that a check was distributed to Sacajawea Elementary School for the Accelerated Reader program for the 2007 year.   This was accomplished at a school assembly and our members were very well received.  The School is proud of their association with St. John's Lodge No. 9 and is very pleased with the continued support of our Lodge to their reading programs.

WB Lund also reported that he had received communication from Cedar Way Elementary School and they are requesting four more bicycles for the spring quarter.  This was taken under advisement for new business.

FABulous Sunday Brunch

VWB James Russell reported that the annual FABulous Sunday Brunch will occur on May 6th,  the Sunday previous to Mother's day as is our tradition.   This will again be held at Ivar's Salmon House on Union Bay.  Reservations are an absoulute must for this event and every member along with their families or significant others, every widow and their families or significant others are welcome.   Also, prospective members and their families or significant others who are invited for the first time by members are welcome to attend.

Youth Committee

WB Charles Tupper reported that Laurel Assembly had received the necessary funding from the Lodge to enable them to attend Grand Assembly.  He also reported that St. John's Lodge No. 9 would be seeing two more youth groups this year as servers at our meals.  These were groups that could not be at our Youth night because of space limitations at the Masonic Center.

Service Bureau

WB Darrel Womack reported that the King County Masonic Service Bureau is having a fund raiser dinner in Auburn.  The cost of the meal is $30 per plate.  The lodge authorized funding to send WB Womack and his lady to this event.

Warden's Conference

Brothers Chris Carney and Jim Wold reported that they found the Warden's conference well worth their time and effort to attend.  Both learned a lot about Lodge management and heartily recommend attendance to all upcoming line officers.

Company Store

WB Hans Wehl reported that the Company Store is overstocked and the membership needs to assess their needs for shirts, coats, vests, pens, cups, and other accessories and articles of clothing and get these from our store.  The store does not operate at a profit and, in fact, often operates at a loss.  The prices are very low.

Scholarship Committee

MWB Sat Tashiro and Brother Brian Downey reported that the Scholarship Committee is hard at work getting our scholarships ready for this year's graduating Senior classes at some of our local High Schools.  Authority to guarantee funding was requested and was put over to new business.

Petitions

A petition for plural membership was favorably balloted.   A petition for the degrees is in process of investigation and should be ready for balloting at the next Stated Communication.

Birthday Greetings

Two members were recognized for birthdays this month and WB Skip Albertson played Happy Birthday as the membership attempted to sing in tune the song for these Brothers.

Unfinished Business

Those scheduled to attend the District Four and Five reception for the Grand Master which was rescheduled to May 11th due to snow earlier in the year reconfirmed their reservations.

New Business

The Lodge voted to fund our representatives to the annual Grand Lodge session according to the guidelines set forth by the Board of Trustee's.

Five Brothers were appointed to explain the resolutions to Grand Lodge at our May Stated Communication.

Worshipful Master Tupper reported that in conjunction with Greenwood Lodge No. 253, Rainier Lodge No. 189 and probably Layfayette Lodge No.  241 and Esoterika Lodge No. 316 a regularly scheduled practice for regular Lodge ritual work will be held for the officers and members of all interested Lodges.  These classes will be begin on the second Monday evening of May (May 14th) and will continue each month on the second Monday evening at 7 PM, July and August excepted.

The Lodge authorized funding for Cedar Way Elementary School's bicycles.

The Lodge authorized the Scholarship Committee to guarantee scholarships to Students in amounts where the total of all does not exceed $25,000.00.

The Woshipful Master cancelled the Officer's meeting scheduled for next week and asked all officers to attend the Master Mason Degree of Greenwood Lodge for Brother Adam Creighton, our new Lodge Musician.
