Irving Isaac Israel was born in Seattle, WA, November 13, 1938, to Juliette and John (Asher) Israel. He was raised in the Mt. Baker community and studied at Seattle Talmud Torah and Franklin High School. He grew up with a core of friends as he went through Aleph Zadik Aleph 73 youth group and Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity at the University of Washington. A brief stop as King County Deputy Sheriff moved him into the United States Marine Corps where he spent four years as a reservist. He then entered the corporate world as a banker for Seattle First National Bank. He spent much of his time developing bank security protocols and testing for bank card machines which at the time did not exist.

While a bank trainee, WBro. Israel was initiated in Ionic Lodge No. 90 as an Entered Apprentice Mason, September 27, 1962, passed to a Fellowcraft, April 10, 1963, and raised a Master Mason, June 5, 1963. WBro. Israel joined his father and uncles as members of Ionic Lodge. WBro. Israel served as Master of Ionic Lodge in 1976. He was a Master Mason 44 years.

WBro. Israel had a passion for flowers and spent most of his career at the Cascade Market on Aurora Avenue North in Seattle. After closing the Market, he had a brief career in real estate. His sense of humor was his signature and his kindness to everyone around him was his passion.

WBro. Israel will be remembered for all the joy and light he brought to this world. He is survived by his loving wife, Corinne, his mother, Juliette, his sister, Rose Lee Jaffee, his children, Sherri Newman and Alan Israel and his grandchildren, Ryan, Brandon, Shira and Becca Newman. Funeral Services were held at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home on April 5, 2007 followed by burial at the Seattle Sephardic Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to Caroline Kline Galland Home, 7500 Seward Park Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98118-4256.

Since its establishment in 1924, International Order of Aleph Zadik Aleph has provided Jewish and personal enrichment to hundreds of thousands of young men throughout the world. Often described as a "high school fraternity," it is part of the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization, Inc.

Michael S. Rust 7/27/57 - 12/3/07

… take a message to Michael,
message to Michael
Ask him to start for home today
When you find him please let him know
Rich or poor, I will always love him so

Bro. Michael Steven Rust was born in Hempstead, New York, July 27, 1957. Following his high school graduation and freshman year at Lehigh University he emigrated from the east coast and attended the University of Washington and Western Washington State University. At the former, Bro. Rust worked at the cyclotron, machine shop and on boats. From the latter he received a degree in technology education and geology. By his admission, the greater part of his education developed from his work as a machinist, cabinetmaker, sailing instructor and boat bum.

Bro. Rust tells us that he spent a few too many years as a teacher at the high school and community college levels, paying his dues for those years spent as a student in similar surroundings in New York. During that time he taught Earth Science, Machine Shop, Building Construction, and Physics. His last few years, he traded in his "teacher clothes" for those he was much more comfortable wearing - those of a union electrician. This career change led Michael through the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) apprenticeship program to become a journeyman IBEW electrician in 2004, after which he rapidly became a foreman with General Construction. He loved his work, the challenges and its camaraderie.

Bro. Rust was initiated into St. John's Lodge No. 9 as an Entered Apprentice Mason, October 11, 1997, passed to a Fellowcraft, November 1, 1997, and raised a Master Mason, December 6, 1997. He served as St. John's Master in 2004. His fraternal activities and relationships were an important part of his life.

Following a long battle with acute myeloid leukemia, Bro. Michael passed to that Celestial Lodge, December 3, 2007. He leaves his loving wife Alexandra (Alex) Rust; stepsons Damian Puggelli and Orion Brown; parents, Robert and Abby Rust; brother and sister-in-law Peter and Judy Rust; nieces and nephews Leigh, Michael, Alyssa, and Lindsey Rust; a most incredible circle of friends, and his good friend Sasha Bear, a German shepherd, all who love him dearly.

A memorial service to celebrate Michael's life was held Sunday, December 16th, 2007, at Greenwood Masonic Center. Donations may be made in his memory to City of Hope Leukemia Program.
