Welcome to St. John's Lodge No. 9

People think that because we are Freemasons, we don't know how to have fun. That all we do is work and are serious all the time.  Well, we are serious about the good work we do - but we also know how to have a good time. This year we have many exciting outings planned for the lodge, the member's families, and also prospective candidates for Freemasonry (which could be you).

We have a special committee designed to set up outings with fun in mind. Some of the things planned for this year are: Ride the Ducks, The Underground Seattle Tour, Attending the movie, National Treasure Book of Secrets, and a bus tour to Leavenworth for Oktoberfest.

We also have our annual outdoor picnic, held at the Nile Temple picnic grounds, our Annual Sunday Brunch held at Ivar's Salmon House on Lake Union, and our annual Anniversary dinner, this year at Ballinger Lake Golf Club, with "Nearly Neil Diamond" performing.

You can read more about these on our fun events page.

On a multi Lodge, or District,  level we attend Hockey games, fellowship nights, A Texas Holdem Tournament for charity, public ceremonies, and community parades.

Working with our community neighbors, such as the Phinney Neighborhood Association, we have Art walks, Street of Dreams tours, wine and beer tasting and other outside venues.

Now, about Freemasonry and St. John's Lodge in particular - We are not a secret society but a society with a few secrets.

The solemn rituals that we use are meant to be special and impress upon the mind of the initiate the importance of truth, friendship, morality and brotherly love.

These rituals would not be special or important if everyone knew what they contained. Everyone who has gone through the degrees of Masonry has had the same experience. Some jurisdictions have changed the wording of the fraternity's rituals slightly, but the meaning remains the same.

The other secret to Freemasonry is this. Can you keep a secret? It sounds easy. In truth, it is difficult. You want to share what is good, what is honest, what is moral. You can share, with your fellow brothers. It is the bond that ties us together, it is TRUST.

There you have it, the secrets of Freemasonry revealed. As you can see, we have a lot of fun while taking care of the normal business of the lodge.

If this sounds like the type of thing you would like to become involved with and would like to contact the Lodge, please take a moment and fill out the form provided for that purpose, and Invite us to meet with you. You are always welcome at our stated dinners to meet the members and have a good meal, provided we know you are coming.  We meet on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:15 pm at the Greenwood Masonic Center 7910 Greenwood Ave. North in Seattle.

Remember that, like the Marine Corps, we are always in need of "A Few Good Men." We, however, cannot ask you to join.  You will have to request a petition from a Lodge member to do that.

Now that is out of the way, lets get down to why we find Freemasonry to be a good organization to be part of and why you should consider asking to join us.

We are around people we can trust with our wallet, with our wives, and with our kids. We want to become better individuals, better husbands, and better friends. We want to make a difference in the community we live in and the world, as a whole.

In Washington State Freemasonry, the Holy Scriptures are found on the altar of every Lodge and it is the rule and guide of our faith. One must believe in a Supreme Being to be accepted into our fraternity. We accept people of all ethnic backgrounds and religions.  All we ask is that you believe in a Supreme Being.

Freemasonry teaches us that we are all brothers and to treat each other and act as such.

There are many more reasons why men want to join our Fraternity.  I have addressed only a few reasons above. We enjoy that special bond of friendship, knowing that we have all been through the same rituals. We have been given obligations to memorize. It took us some time to learn them, but we did it and we enjoyed it. We enjoyed the enlightenment we received when given our degree lectures.

We enjoy meeting other men from dissimilar backgrounds who we would never otherwise have the chance to meet.

And, we enjoy the feeling we get in our hearts and in our spirits when we go out into our communities and make a difference with our charitable contributions and the giving of our time.

As you can see, we are busy on many different fronts. And we would welcome you to join us and help us continue the good works that we do. We have room for more good men like you. Make an investment in yourself, in your future happiness and help us reshape the world around us.  You have greatness in you and we can help you to realize its fulfillment.  Fill out the form and ask us to meet with you.

Fraternally, Jim Wold
