On a busy Monday evening when some of our membership attended the King Solomon Strawberry Feed as representatives of our Lodge and others attended the Greenwood Temple Fellowship Night, over a dozen members and helpers attended the Teen Feed. Teen Feed is run by the University Street Ministries and prepares and feeds the homeless youth dinner five days a week. St. John's Lodge steps in on occasion and serves these youth an excellent steak dinner with all the trimmings.
Our Committee Chair, Brother Ryan Stoulil, put together an excellent team which cooked dinner and served it to about thirty homeless youth. The meal consisted of steak, penne in tomato sauce, vegetable, juice, salad, and dessert. They also prepared take aways for everyone.
In Bro. Ryan's words this is what transpired:
"........ We prepared steak (complete with single servings of A1!), penne in a lovely tomato sauce, a vegetable medley, rolls and cookies for dessert. The kids were also given take-away bags filled with juice, fruit snacks and granola bars. We served approximately 30 kids from 7 PM to 8PM...leftovers were taken to a nearby shelter and food bank where they were quickly dispensed with at a later feeding."
"Everyone in attendance brought their A-game...you would've thought we were an experienced team of caterers. The kids were very grateful and we all had a wonderful experience! Needless to say the folks at Teen Feed and their patrons love it when St. John's shows up...they're treated to a first class meal."
The Lodge budget line item for Teen Feed has been increased for this year due to Bro. Stoulil's hard work and the great success of the program.
