The Saturday before Thanksgiving members of St.
John's Lodge No. 9 went |

shopping for enough food to last two families
consisting of three adults and six children for a month as well as
getting Thanksgiving dinner fixings. Food filling over two full
carts like the one on the left, which was about half full when the
picture was taken, was purchased. The deliveries were made Saturday
afternoon and the families were very grateful for getting this help.
Both families were in dire need.
The worst of the two was a single mom and her seven
year old daughter. They did not even have beds to sleep on in
their apartment even though they have lived there for two and a half
years. The mom is on SSI and is presently undergoing a series of
operations at Swedish Medical Center. This little family was found
to be missing even the rudiments of civilized living by not even having such
basic items as dishes and cooking pots and pans.

The brethren of the Lodge stepped up to
the plate and are presently helping to get this family supplied with that they need. The Master's charity has helped and WB Hans Wehl, Sharon Wehl, Bro. Ken Wehl, Bro. George Rine, WB Darrel Womack, Judy Womack, WB Charlie Tupper,
Karen Tupper, Bro. Eric Koteles, and others have been helping to set things
right for this family. Beds have been supplied along with bedding. Pots and
pans, dishes, utensils for eating and cooking have been delivered. Other
furniture is being sought and secured. We will be giving this family a
Christmas to remember with clothing and needed items as well as a toy or
two.
In addition to all of this the Brethren could not bear to
see a little girl with a broken doll as her only real toy. A soft
cuddly teddy bear was given her and the family was given a small Christmas
tree with lights and ornaments to cheer up their home. When the little
girl saw the bear she grabbed it with both arms and said she would name it
"Mr. Snuggles." Mom's eyes started to mist and the Masons beat a hasty
retreat from the home.
Should any Brother feel like helping this family some
money in the form of gift cards from Safeway, QFC, Fred Meyer, Etc
would be welcome as these would help stretch the SSI checks for the
immediate future. If you can help please bring a gift card to Lodge at the December Stated and we will put it in an envelope with a Christmas card and put it under their tree. Although we cannot really adopt a family, when we
see the dismal living conditions that are evident here it is obvious that as
men and Masons we cannot turn our backs.
