Mother
By Bro. Frank Cushman, Tyler Emeritus - St. John's Lodge No. 9

Dedicated to my beloved Mother and to all Mothers where so ever dispersed over the world.

"Mother," a word that has changed the world in a manner that is difficult to understand.

She is the force that can bend a stout son into doing things he swore he would never do. How does she work this magic? It is through the love of a son holds for his mother, plus knowing what buttons to push and when to push them.

Yes Lad, you may have been the terror of the play ground but she was able with a few well chosen words to get you to help clean house, take care of your baby brother or sister, and wear a tie to church. You may not have liked what she put you to doing but you did it.

She gave you life, nourished you through infancy, wiped your dripping nose, and guided your wayward feet.

No other force in the world can work the magic spells that changed you from a rough necked kid needing your neck washed into the man who would and could escort her down the isle of the church on Sunday morning. (Secretly proud to be her escort)

Emperors and great Generals have done the bidding of a Mother.

She is a force to be reckoned with. Who else brings your wandering feet homeward? Looking ahead to a meal prepared by her loving hands, Returning home has within itself a magic that only she can provide.

She was the one who helped you to your feet when the one and "only girl in the world" told you to get lost. Explained that there were other fish in the sea and that it was not the end of the world. She saw to it that we left home with matching clothing and a clean handkerchief in our pocket.

She was that kind woman who, when your money had run out fed you a meal on the side. Meanwhile hoping that some other Mother would feed her wandering son.

From the day you were born until she closed her eyes for the last time she has watched over you. Be assured that though she is gone from our mortal ken she still watches over you.

Her prayers are the most powerful in the world. They have reached around the world to seek you out and to guide your footsteps aright.

She forgave us when we erred and blessed us when we did right Yes, she was that wonderful lady who sent us out into the world with a prayer. We needed that prayer.

There is a Jewish saying: "GOD could not be everywhere so HE made Mothers."

Mother, forgive us our mistakes. We hold in our hearts a special love for you. We know who will be waiting for us when we have crossed the line to another world. GOD bless you and richly reward you for all you have done for us.
